Classic & Vintage - Cinelli Supercorsa

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone else have one?
I've just built up a 1995 Columbus SLX framed Cinelli Supercorsa (pearl white and chrome), with Campag Veloce (Triple - my knees are getting worse as I get older and Scotland has some hills!)groupset, Vento wheels , Look pedals and Selle Italia saddle, 3T bars and stem etc.
It will just take 23 mm tyres and it is a fantastic, fast, comfy ride.
I believe the basic frame geometry has not changed since 1948. I'll try to post pictures later.
It's my youngest bike, my others being a 1964 Flying Scot Continental (handbuilt in Glasgow- red/white and chrome) mainly Campag, and a 1984 custom built audax/fast tourer (my everyday bike - again mainly Campag- powdercoat black and dirt!), 531 and 531c respectively.
I love lugged steel. :)
Hello Chewa,
Long time no hear (as "they" are wont to say).
I haven't ridden a supercorsa but lust after older Cinelli bikes.
What we really need is pictures of your Flying Scot and Audax bike
in the vintage ride section!

Hello Chewa,
I have a 1976 Speciale Corsa (same thing as Super Corsa) and it is a wonderful bike although I tend not to ride it as much as my Zullo. You will love it!

Hi Mr. Pogliaghi, want to swap the Cinelli for a Pogliaghi?
It's a wonderful bike...

Ok, people. Anyone selling this sort of steel must contact me first. First! Got it?
You guys have the bike lust a-bubblin' within me.

oopfoo,
I am sorry to inform you that this is a clear violation of Bike Forums protocol (or is that
prototypes? hmmm) which will result in immediate banning and revokation of all Classic
and Vintage rites and expulsion from CR list.
It clearly states in sec 1.234.68.190 subsection 24 subparagraph 3 that
". . .all classic steel offerings are to be approved by, and given first rights of refusal
to, the moderator who hangs out the most in the Cranky & Vintage forum."
TOG, I'll give ya a buck 3.80 for the bike. btw what colour is that?

Thanks for the welcome back Marty.
As an Ullrich fan I tend to keep my head down during the TdF times and cease posting for a while. :D
I'll try to post some photos of the Flying Scot now its finished with my (self) handbuilt wheels.
In it's just as bought form it's on the Flying Scot site.

I'll post the Cinelli too. The seatpost is the only thing I've to change. I'm looking for an Italian 27mm set back post.
My Sandy Gilchrist bike is in winter mode at the moment. Mucho lights.

I think if you compared like sized frames from Cinelli over the decades after the 70's things have changed quite a bit. Head angle and fork rake in particular, not to mention chainstay length. I will disregard clearances for brakes and tires.
They did however make the same basic bike for a long time.
I liked them but the low bottom bracket was not competitive in SoCal criteriums in the 70's when quill pedals still ruled.
Make mine Black, with light blue pearl seat & headtube panels. When I saw one like that 30 years ago it was bike lust.

Hey Tog,
Tempting offer but I have a 60s Pog track bike (being refinished as we speak). What year is that one - I would guess early 80's? Really beautiful!

Thanks.
I know it's not that tempting... I'd trade two of 'em for the right Cinelli. As far as I can tell, it's from about '79 to '82. I think a previous owner added the SL fork decals; the seat tube's got the earlier gold one.

Yes, it doesn't have a very high BB. But I've fitted Looks to it and I corner like a wuss so clearance is not an issue. :) I must admit, I just like Italian bike equipment and this one has had a hard life as a racer then latterly winter bike.
The pearl paintwork is pretty good, theusual rub marks etc, and the chrome other than near the join of chainstays with BB shell is excellent.
It's got full ergo (I debated about sticking to DT levers but have those on the Scot) and I set the brakes up the UK way (i.e front - right) as I tried the continental way and knew I'd be heading for a fall.
I think it looks ace with the black vento wheels, and, though not the lightest machine in the world, is really stiff and climbs well.
It is the healthier equivalent to a Porsche!

Dang. Just when Bikelust had been in remission for a couple months. All in sizes I could ride too. :(
TOG, Is that the same Pog as on the CR serial number list?
POG, I bought an early 80's track frame, care to trade? (mines
getting ready to go for refinish as soon as it gets here).
Zorro, bikelust in remission? isn't that a contradiction of terms?

Yes, I have a Cinelli Supercorsa SPX 1984, 58cm C to C. It's china blue in colour with chrome everywhere. Very steep seat and head tube angles (around 75 degrees); criterium geometry. I have a 1984 Campy titanium SR gruppo with cobalto callipers (the blue 'stone' matches the blue of the bike). I have also fitted a Cinelli VIP set; stitched leather bar covering, leather biddon cover, leather spare tubular pouch, toe clip straps. Nice Silca pump with Campy fittings; pump head and top fitting.
I used to ride it regularly; very responsive but a little too twitchy (head tube angle). It is still in exceptionally good condition but I find the paint chips around the dropouts where the paint meets the chrome.
Now, I just seem to look at it and take it for a short ride on a nice day. It may not belong to the 'golden era' of Cinelli but it is a beautiful bike.
