Commuting - I have PERMANENT helmet hair!

My son jokes after long rides that he has a serious case of helmet hair.

The past 2 days, I have noticed that my helmet hairstyle persists right through showering & washing hair :eek: :eek: :eek: There are 4 well-defined flat sections corresponding to the helmet pads on top of my head. Not that there's much hair left there. :D

I already have cyclist's sock.

Once summer kicks in and the tan develops, the transformation will be complete.

I hope I don't get cyclist's penis...

Hehe, gotta love those head dents eh? But wear them like a badge of honour... some people don't wear a helmet at all!

and no, no fancy lined tan, but it could be from the bell metro that i wear, the vents are pretty small.

my office mate has massive helmet hair though, i'm talking him into using NOX (the gelatin hair holder that synchrinized swimmers use) to keep it permanent through the day :D

What if it's not just the hair anymore! Maybe your head has actually developed flat spots from the helmet?

What's cyclist's sock?

My hair is cut into what my wife calls a Faux-Hawk. It's kind of a more professional looking mohawk, no shaved sides, the hair longer in the middle and pushed up into a peak. It fits into the middle vent on my helmet well enough that I don't really have to do anything to it once I take the helmet off.

I just buzzed my hair. No more helmet head!

Well, I buzzed it for other reasons too:

1. A bald spot is starting to develop
2. I'm too lazy to do anything creative with my hair... especially in the morning
3. I never had great-looking hair anyway
4. A buzzer is cheaper than three trips to the hair dresser
5. Did I mention I'm lazy?

I've been buzzing my own hair for years. I use the #1 guide, which leaves about 1/8" of hair. No bald spot but just lazy. That and like you said the buzzer (I'm actually on my second one now) pays for itself in about two haircuts. No helmet hair either.

I wear a hat under my helmet. My hair gets a little smushed by the hat, but it's uniform smushing and I can usually just run my fingers through it to get it to go back to normal.

What's cyclist's sock?
The constant rubbing of the socks wear down the hair, leaving you bald around the ankles (assuming there was hair there in the first place). If you don't shave your legs (I don't) then you are left with these white smooth "booties".

Got2b's spiking glue. I put it on when I get to work. THe universal messiness obscures any vent lines.

Jur, it sounds like your hair is suffering from overtraining. Overtrained hair is a serious and all too common condition among cyclists. Hair that is stressed by hard training needs some time to recover. Try adding more recovery time between workouts. :rolleyes:
