Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I hope I'm in the right thread (I didn't see a hardware review or bike parts section).

I'm looking for a new bike seat. Namely cause I can feel pain in my, uh, malely area (between the gentials and anus). I don't know the name for it, but it starts to hurt, even though my seat has a cut out for that place.

Anyways I got "The Seat" basically a bike without the narrow part but wider to make up for it. I don't think I'm going to get used to it.

I was walking taking pictures for my photography class and I saw this awesome bike seat. It is very wide and the back and kind of the side area fins up. It seems like it would be very comfortable from my experience with chairs I've sat on. I don't know about you guys but sitting on a wooden chair that curves down to fit your butt without padding is more comfritable than sitting on a flat wooden chair with padding. You should try it, its like it distripues the pressure more evenly on your buttocks area.
Here is an example of what I mean:
http://www.brayton.com/eneacafe.htm

Anyways he was riding away and all I saw on the back was "Kruz(couldn't make out the rest) Krush," I don't know if that was the name of the bike seat or if it was a custom name put on it.

Is there a name for this kind of bike seat?
Anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks :)

I believe the technical term for it is "taint".

Just a hint, be sure the nose of your saddle isn't tilted up. This will cause problems with any saddle, even one with a cut out.

While it may be hard for some people to get a fine seat, it is MUCH, MUCH les costly to arrange your fitting so that the pressure in that area is lessened.

Also, when you used the fist saddle with a cutout, did you make sure you were properly sitting on your sit bones, at the very back of the saddle? Too many times I've seen people sitting on the nose of a anatomical saddle complaining that the cutout didn't do squat.

Work with what you have, you might be surprised.

I don't know if this is anything like what you're after, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't put pressure there. It's from Camping World (http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm?deptID=&subOf=7&skunum=17880&src=TSC)

It is definately the weirdest looking bike seat I have ever seen, and I don't know how it would be for any kind of distance.

There's a lot that could be going on here. I've heard that cutouts sometimes are worse than a solid seat because the edges of the hole dig into you. Your saddle might be positioned wrong, so you are putting too much weight on it, or it might be too narrow so it's giving you a "wedgie", or tilted up a bit too much. If you like to sit more upright, you might need a wider springier saddle. If you like to be forward in an aerodynamic position you might need to push your seat back a bit so your legs can take more of your weight, sort of like a person poised to dive, with his butt sticking back, and his head forward. If it's too far back, you may be sitting on the narrow nose part. Why don't you get the LBS to have a look at your setup?

Just re-read your original post. Do you mean you have a bike "seat" without a nose already? Maybe the front edge is hurting you.

the new seat isn't hurting my taint, its just hurting my butt now.

Check out this link:

It seems to be the closest thing I've been talking about.

Is there a name for this kind of seatpost?

Sorry, I'm getting confused. Has the pain moved? And I'm not sure which product you're referring to at that website. The flame seat with the cutout?
(EDIT) OK, let's see...your first seat had a traditional shape but with a cutout, and that hurt in the middle, your second seat has no nose, and that one hurts your butt...correct?

Do you sit more upright like on a hybrid or cruiser, or are you in a more aerodynamic, forward leaning position?

I can't comment on the "T-flex" but be wary of overly wide and/or soft saddles.
Jobst said it far better than I could: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/soft-saddles.html
See also: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html

Consider a Brooks if plastic saddles aren't working for you. You might try a Fizik Arionne first though... they seem to be quite popular in the plastic saddle circle...

I've had great luck with my Specialized Indie 143 (they also have a wider 150-something model)...at first it felt weird because the nose of the saddle is very short...to put it shortly...it's so short that certain parts of me are not in contact with teh saddle anymore...which is quite an odd feeling at first, to say the least.

...however....after riding it some, I found that is actually ideal, as I found that the nose of the saddle doesn't press up against any tissue at all...it's just there...and the back was just the right padding and just the right width for me that it works fine.

Point being, sometimes it's not a giant seat you need, it's just a seat that fits properly over your "sit bones" and is designed properly enough to not pinch certain frontal parts.

Yep learn where your sit bones are, frankly you can do a lot worse than to just get a brooks b17, that's the one seat they sell that the most people are happy with by far. On it, your sit bones sit on the saddle, no squishing into the gel because there is none. And well cared for, should last a very long time.

I think that seat is a rip off from the "Chidion" Brand bike (USA circa 1910)

I just bought three bike seats from a company called Derri-Air (sp?) and just put them on our bikes yesterday. They do not have the shape you illustrated but they are very comfortable with ample size and gel padding. I bought 2 of the 11 inch and one of the 12 inch. I used the 11 inch last night and was very pleased. My wife loved the 12 inch seat. Hope this helps.

Okay I ordered the T-flex cruiser.

I will do a breif review on it once I use it for about a week.

Also I came across this article about the importance for "concave" seats for long rides (its really talking about motorcycles but I think its line of thought can be applied here). It bashes convex seats used on most bikes.

I can't comment on the article as I haven't read it, however, motorcycle and bicycle seats aren't as related as their two wheeled vehicles might suggest.

On a motorcycle, you aren't pedaling. On a bicycle, those muscles (I'll leave it to a fitness expert to tell us exactly which ones) are always active. A typical motorcycle saddle would cause your "pedalling muscles" to cramp awfully badly. (charlie horse)

See the articles I linked in my previous reply.

Look forward to hearing your feedback on the T-flex.

Ya I understand about not wanting the "exact" same sit as a motorcycle, but I think what it talks about with concave seats, some, but not all, can be applied to our bikes. And it was the only thing i found on google talking about it, so thats why I put a link to it.

I had an Easy Seat on my wedgie.....didn't like it, so gave it to a friend to try, and he said: "now I know why you gave it to me, you can't stay on it, with the center part (horn?) cut out. He gave it back....I still have it, but now I ride a recumbent and have a happy butt and other parts as well.

nose-less saddles are pretty much good for chew toys, and xmas gifts to a cyclist that has been a bad little monkey....like the guy that always finds a way to cut me off.

Spiderflex seats have 2 pads, 1 for each bun. They are relatively comfortable and solve the prostate aggravation problem. bk

Here is my review.

After riding for a about a week, I've come to enjoy the T-Flex.

I was surprized when I opened the box it came in, it was about the same size of "The Seat" by ergo: ( http://www.ergo-theseat.com/ ) T-Flex, however is a much more comfortable seat. I believe this all to be from the curve. But 3 things that would be better if.

1.) The seat was bigger
2.) If it curved up more (surprizingly it doesn't curve that much)
3.) Used a different type of material on the top (when I wear gym shorts I guess they are made of the same material I tend to slide a little).

Also a word of caues, it does have a horn which helps you hold on, but it is smaller than a normal horn and kind stab ya if you aren't careful (did it the first time I got on, never since).

Other than that, I LOVE THIS SEAT, I hope more people come out with more concave seats for us bikers!

Check out Spiderflex online. They have a dual pad seat that works well.
