View Full Version : Coltrane - Gilligan's Island
Okay, this is what I mean by the thread title - On a desert island where you can only have one, do you pick:
A Love Supreme
or
Giant Steps?

For sheer zen/mantra to pass the time.... A Love Supreme is like religion.
Return question.... what if my choice was "Kind of Blue" or "B*tches Brew" from Miles?

A Love Supreme would be playing every morning with the sunrise and the surf.

*****es Brew from Miles, definitely.
On the return q, I'd go "Kind of Blue".

Love Supreme
Kind of Blue
I just read in Newsweek that long lost tapes of 'Trane and Monk playing at Carnegie Hall in 1957 have been released on CD. Woo-hoo!
What if the choice were Monk's Epistrophy or 'Round Midnight?

Interesting thread! Different eras, different sounds. It's like asking, "which is your favorite child..." or "Revolver or Abbey Road?"
I'm now psyched up because when I get home I'm going to put on the Coltrane records and give them a listen.... it's been a while....

Not fair... Like asking: Do I want spanked or paddled? D

Who says I'd pick Coltrane at all?
The Cowboy Junkies are who I consider my favorite band (I finally claimed this last year after considering "Heart" my favorite band for many, many years). I love probably every song by the Cowboy Junkies, but I'm still not sure if I'd pick one of theirs as the "only song I could listen to".
I'd have to give that much more thought......immediate thoughts:
Albatross by Fleetwood Mac
Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band
