Dear ,
Thank you for the email and we apologize for the delayed response. Unfortuantely, we do not have this item available through our on-line store. We would suggest contacting the on-line store where you purchased it from.
Kind Regards,

MESSENGER
USA 2005 | DV, 18 minutes.
DIRECTOR: Daniel Leeb
A day in the life of New York City messenger, Alfred Bobe, Jr., “"the fastest man in the city".” Daniel Leeb's cinematography dances with Bobe's bicycle through the moving city. This film is sure to make anyone who ever considered moving to New York to become a bike messenger, book himself or herself on the next flight to JFK. Not only a stunning portrait of the courier workday, Messenger is a tribute to New York's energy and its do-or-die attitude. Bobe may risk his life for the next delivery, but his philosophical outlook and skillful riding will remind you why messengers setthe pace of urban street culture.

did you your copy from Fadar magazine?
eddiebrannan

not exactly. i used to work with theo from puma when i was at the fader and he was at cornerstone, the fader's parent company. he's the guy at puma behind their investment in fg-related stuff, and i got it through him.

it's good. not life-altering, but a good short. he says one good thing, about there not being nor needing to be any rivalry between messengers and usps guys, says something like we do the same job, just that they do it without riding a bicycle [pause] "but why would you do a job where you don't get to ride a bicycle?" nice line, some good riding shots taken from another bike, some nice observation of this way that he kinda caresses other vehjicles when riding through traffic - like strokes them a little bit (make of it what you will), some nice little skids that he does. starts and ends with the billburg bridge. funny thing as you're watching the last shot of the ride home brooklyn-bound and the shot is from the pov of a rider going up the climb from delancey, every time you see one of the yellow dividers disappear under the bottom of the screen as the bike approaches it you brace yourself for the bump. it's involuntary!

... Okay, messenger dvd owners:
Do any of you a: have a dvd drive on your computer and b: have the time / willingness to follow a tutorial that would walk you through the process of ripping a dvd, installing bittorrent (file sharing software) and sharing it to the interweeb?
I'd be willing to write something up if someone else is willing to go through it.
heres a seemingly easy dvd ripping guide:
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/34/59/
edit: keep it high quality since its short!
and don't feel too pressured, this will take a few hours (unattended, but still). i won't hold it against you if you dont feel like doing it.

eyefloater i have dvd drive (not dvd burner) in a powerbook g4 running os 10.3.9. if that works go for it. i am stuck in the ****ing boonies of illinois until friday, but will gladly do it if i can on the weekend. either post here, pm me, or email eddie@eddiebrannan.com with a walk-through
oh, i don't know about powerbook. i don't think my guide will work with a mac. that might take some more searching.
eyefloater
09-21-05, 09:35 PM
Np. I'm good with either. There's a Mac next to the computer I'm using at the moment, so I'll work something out for you tomorrow and send it off. Thanks for helping us out.
Ps. You don't need a burner. Basically, you'll be copying the audio / video data from the dvd and converting it to a movie file like you'd download off any website. As long as your computer can play a dvd, we'll be fine.

k let's do it. i'm home friday afternoon. dvd's at home somewhere

What's the numerical value of 'short'?
eddiebrannan
09-22-05, 11:19 AM
18 mins if you're referring to the length of this movie
What's the numerical value of 'short'?
i think most people in the film industry use short for any film less than a feature length, which is about 100 minutes; and common usage a short is anything an hour or less.

where are you going to post it when you have it ripped?
I'll help seed it if you want to ftp it to me :D
no offense but FU wizard sucks, its slow and hasnt enough options to do justice to a good dvd rip
For avi's use the mencoder portion of mplayer, its open source, will rip on the fly, and has tons of options. A full 2 hr dvd on a 2ghz machine takes about an hour to an hour and a half to rip one into full res and any of the mpeg4 formats and mp3 audio. In console mode on a linux box it will do it in about 45mins. Thats a heck of lot better than the hours it takes FU wizard, much better quality too.

If it's like 350mb or less better to just throw it on someones ftp. But if it is bigger bittorrent is the way to go.

bit torrent is the way to go, I'll help seed it when you get it online.
my work computer is always running, and is on a T1 connection. I'll leave it open for 24 hours or so.... that should be loads of time for lots of people to nab it.

Bittorrent guys. Let's get it out there for other people to pick up as well. The tutorial I'm writing up is just about finished, and Eddie's going to get to work this weekend. It'll be posted on a few torrent sites when it's up (I'll post them) and we'll post a link here too.
Thanks,

I hope the FBI and Interpol isn't reading this. If they are, I don't know what you are talking about. If they aren't, I have a T1 and could help host too.
