Just picked up a Nishiki Bicycle, Mixte frame, 4130 chromoly tubing, Sugino vp crank set, shimano SIS light action derailleurs, Dia-compe brake system, alloy rims, Vetta seat, champion handle bars. Decals say sport and sport series, color blue with white forks, 1 hub says 86, the other 87. Like new!! No rust and just a coupla dings in the paint. 10 bucks. This bike is really light weight. Can't find a serial number
Is this a good find?

You know, of all of sydney's comments, this is one of, if not the first, that I just completely don't get.

 obviously Sydney you're a purist, I 'm just an older recreational rider, I've ridden a few girls bikes in my time, all I could afford at the time. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words never hurt me!!!

Ah, missed the 'mixte' I just say the blue with white fork and didn't think it sounded TOO girrly. I'm debating trying to find a vintage stepthrough framed bike for my finacee. She never learned to ride as a child (very busy neighborhood in the 'valley' in Cali) and trying to encourage her to at least try to learn. That and I'm just enjoying the process of fixing up old vintage rides just a bit too much.

"nuff said, I was looking for some comments on the bike, not trash talk.

Sounds like quite a find for $10.00. The Sport model was Nishiki's entry level bicycle, but their entry level was one of the better ones around. If it fits, give it a tune-up and enjoy. If you're ambitious, you could mount a slingshot on it so you can pelt Sydney with water balloons if he gives you grief. ;)

As USAZorro states, you did well. The Shimano Light Action SIS derailleurs were Shimano's least expensive index derailleurs at the time and manufacturers sometimes comprised other features on the bicycles to able to include these derailleurs. However you have CrMo tubing (at least in the main triangle), aluminum rims and a nice crankset. It's entry level, but a decent one, and cost about $250.00 US.

Good Find. The girls around here (San Jose State) would kill for that bike. I've sold 3 mixtes in the last week and a half. (Peugeot, Fuji, Takara) They all ride them around campus or to school. :D

When I worked at Bikecology in 1972-1974, it seemed as though EVERY lady who walked into the shop wanted a white Peugeot mixte. Toward the end of that period, I took graduate Thermodynamics from a visiting French professor (that didn't come out right; a visiting physics professor who happened to be a Frenchman) who commuted to UCLA every day on a Motobecane mixte. At Bikecology, we marketed the mixte as a "unisex" frame.

The really disturbing thing here is that sydney's sitting around conjuring mental images of oglala wearing a skirt. Now -- you tell me who has the problem... :D
