Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fixie LBS in RVA

Whats the best shop for fixed gear parts/info in Richmond? I heard rowletts is the place to go and thats only a 10 minute ride from my place but is there anywhere better?

nope, Rowlett's has a few things whereas all the other shops have nothing at all

Try Re-Cycles over on Cary as well, just to the East of Boulevard. I was in there the other day; they carry cogs and at least seem conversant in fixies. A little less attitude than Rowletts as well. A newer shop; I believe they are a non-profit co-op kinda place, but I'm not entirely positive on this last.

i'm going up there when i get some free time after my job ends to stay with some friends. definatlly going to hunt for goodies in re-cycles

recycles is a good place to pick up cheap fairly new tires and some parts like bars and stems, but for repairs or track parts and such id go to rowletts. for the most part their staff's friendly and theyve got more track stuff than i've seen in any other store. and that cinelli track frame is sweet :)

I'll second the much less attitude comment, however, Rowlett's does have more fixie stuff and a knowledgable staff. Recycles has some decent zines and flyers for upcoming bike craziness. Bike jousting (among other things) on Belle Isle this Saturday!

I used to recommend Rowlett's for repairs/service, but after some serious mistreatment/overbilling of some cycling novices I sent there, I won't any longer. I've been doing all my work for years, so I have no need of a shop, except as an occasional parts bin. Rowlett's is okay, but nothing special. I've personally never been treated badly there, but I know my stuff fairly well. Hard to BS. I'd rate Rowlett's marginally better than the other shops in town.

Agees is pretty much a waste; ten years ago they had a decent mechanic at the West Broad store, but he's long gone (wah. He was good to talk to when figuring out a jury-rig). Goodly's puts their bikes together well as near as I can tell, but they're so far out they're not an option. Two Wheel Travel on Cary is thankfully closed; the attitude there was overwhelming, and last time I was in Conte's the salespeople were talking about what SUV they'd like to drive (it's a bike shop, I don't want to hear about Hummers, sorry). I've heard interesting stuff about Pedal Power, but they're too much of a haul in Mechanicsville. I'll ride out there and check them out one weekend.

I'm hopefull that Recycles will work out well, and I can recommend them to folks whole-heartedly. I think they're off to a decent start. I have no need of their shop, but other folks may. From what I've seen, I'm on the outer edge of their customer base age by about fifteen years, but they've been decently nice to me each time I've been there. I'll continue to frequent there and spend the occasional $$$ in the hope they'll work out right, because a truly good shop is a pleasure, and RVA needs one.
