Threee more things Pittsburghers can do to further bicycle use and safety in the city.

1) Ride a bike to the new REI store in the South Side for the REI Grand Opening from October 7th through 9th (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). and Bike Pittsburgh gets 10 bucks. If you haven't heard of them you can check out Bike Pittsburgh's web site at--http://www.bike-pgh.org/
Bike Pittsburgh is a local cycling safety, advocacy, and awareness organization.

2) REI -- Volunteers needed to help Bike Pittsburgh valet park bikes for the
REI Grand Opening from October 7th through 9th (Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday). REI will donate $10 to Bike PGH for every bike which we
park, and we need to staff this event for three days. REI is opening
up in the South Side Works at the end of South 27th Street - just off
of East Carson. For more information mail David Hoffman (david@bike-
pgh.org)

3) Attend, voice your opinion, make contacts, and network at the SPC Pedestrian Bicycle Meeting and Open House - September 26, 2005

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission will be hosting a meeting of the Pedestrian Bicycle Committee on Monday, September 26, 2005. This meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. See below for a draft agenda of the meeting.

Following the formal meeting, and starting at approximately 4:30 p.m., SPC will host an Open House to solicit input from the general public on pedestrian and bicycle issues, needs and opportunities in the region.

All interested parties are invited to participate in the formal meeting as well as the subsequent Open House. If your schedule does not permit attendance at the 3:00 meeting, please feel free to join us between 4:30 and 7:00 to share your ideas, concerns and enthusiasm.

If you have any questions, or if you need detailed directions to the meeting location, please contact Sara Walfoort at (412) 391-5590, ext 339.

For those of you who don't know, "SPC" stands for Southwestern PA Commission, and they are our regional MPO or Municipal Planning Organization. They cover 10 counties including Allegheny. In short, they are in charge of allocating state and federal transportation funds to the 10 county region. Those funds include money for bike/walking enhancements. You can find out more about SPC here: http://www.spcregion.org/. If you can't make it to the formal meeting at 3PM try to make it to the Open House between 4:30 and 7PM to give feedback about bicycle infrastructure in Pittsburgh.
