I am inexperienced when it comes to bike mechanics. I was wondering if it is possible to place a ~1.67-2.25 tube inside a 1.25 slik tire. I am riding a charity tour this weekend and am doing the best I can to get a beat old mountain bike in road condition. Thanks.

I don't know about the size you're talking about, but I have used tubes larger than the tire and they worked fine.

Doubt it, the 2.25 tubes a larger diameter slightly inflated than the 1.25 slick.
2 tubes =10$.
I slightly over-inflate tubes as I have a 2.3 front tire with a 2.25 tube.
's fine, I think the tube will not inflate correctly round and that you should correctly size as your ride might not go so well.

Mum, been there & done that. I didn't think it would be ok but my buddy with years of experience said I should be ok & I went a long way on oversize tubes with my FatBoy 1.25 slicks. Now happy to have in the proper 1.0-1.25 ones though, and what a difference going together.

So while you could have a problem, I think you will be ok

I wouldn't. You are going to have a hard time trying to cram all of that rubber into the tire cavity. If you're not VERY careful installing your tire on the rim (and you admit to being inexperienced when it comes to bike mechanics) you'll almost surely pinch a portion of the tube under your tire bead somewhere. When you do that it might blow out immediately, it might blow out somewhere down the road, and it might just show up as a snake bite flat tire. I's thinking that you'd prefer to avoid any of those possible outcomes.
