Im having trouble installing the compession nut into the carbon steerer, the nut does not seem to want to grip the carbon steerer it just keeps turning do i need a tool to hold it when tighting.

Make sure you have the right size.1" won't workee so good in a 11/8" steerer.

If you do have the correct compression plug try expanding it slightly before inserting into the steer tube, this may create enough friction so that you can further expand the plug after it is positioned.
