I am fairly new to mountain biking and am looking into buy a new helmet. I like downhill mountain biking but I dont know if I should buy a full face helmet or just a regular mountain biking helmet.

For downhill biking full face helmet without any doubt. Sooner or later everyone crashes.

i think you are mixing up the term "downhill" downhill riding is like when you get shuttled up and ride all the way down the mountain. with lots of drops, rocky terrain and stuff like that. and i would certinly use a full-face.

DH racing is the only time I'd wear a F/F helmet.

I wear the Black one of these.... I only paid $20 for it on sale.

PS: nevermind the money you pay for a helmet. Any high end super expensive helmet is way cheaper than a trip to the hospital.
