How much have you spent on BMX? And what whas your biggest one time splurge? And, if you had a million, what would bike would you buy?

My Haro Cruiser bike was around $275

But I spent $1500 on a MTN bike some years ago, and bought a $1000 Road bike today.

BMX has been cheap for me. My Haro cruiser was AU$400, which I got from selling some old crap on ebay. My wife's Felt I got from a friend for some photo gear, so that cost me about US$200. Our Electra beach cruisers were about AU$1200 for the pair. Things get crazy from there. The FS I gave my wife is handmade, and the frame would have been worth about US$3500 when it was built. My Cannondale XC bike cost the same amount to build as well. The tandem? Because of upgrades, variations in the exchange rate, and the shipping costs for some components, it's hard to pin down the actual cost. We figure AU$9-10k, and the replacement cost is about AU$12k. Everyone needs a hobby.

It's hard to say... My flat bike is about $1,700 or so, but some stuff is prototype stuff that I didn't have to pay for. I have had about a dozen different frames and bikes and now I just replace parts as I need to.

It is all one part at a time. $120 on new bars. Or $350 for a new frame.

One of the toughest single purchases was the wheelset for about $200.00 originally. It was my first step up to a really good wheelset and incredible braking. It was so tough to justify that much money when there wasn't much wrong with my existing wheelset. But, I was talked into it. I would never go back to a cheap wheelset after that. It wasn't my biggest purchase, but it was the toughest that turned into the best.

Lifetime spending? $10K+ on parts plus travelling to 100+ contests.

I just added all my parts and was surprised to see it's about $1230. That's defiantely more than I expected. And if I had a milion dollars to spend on a single bike, it wouldnt make it much different. Get a few different parts and of course everythign brand new, but if I had a the moeny to spend on replacement parts in the future, I might try some light parts and what not.

i have spent about 1300 on my current bike. my biggest purchase was about 2 years ago when i bought my pantera frame, oddyssey cassette w/ 10t driver and hazard light rear wheel, hazard light front wheel with suzue low flange hub, kink axle, pantera bars, some wellgo pedals. it was about 500 on my credit card, it took me 3 months to pay it off.

I've only included the last few years, I can't imagine what I've spent over my life so far. And there's that blurry line between buying stuff for resale, and keeping it for myself.

I'm getting ready to build a bike for my son. After shopping for bike around here, I think I'd rather build one. We found a Mongoose frame cheap. The older ones that were actually very good, and aluminum, so it's VERY light. No I just need to hit ebay over the winter and find the rest of the bike. I'm trying to keep it under $400. I suspect the cranks and wheelset will be the biggest expense. Then the fork I guess could cost a few. I'm hoping they make a light fork.

ive spent around AU$1300 on my bmx, but all of the purchases have been in small amounts. my mtb has cost me AU$1600 stock plus about $400 in tyres/tubes and upgrades.

lets see, on my bmx bike, i have spent nothing for the frame, 150 for cranks and sprocket,55 for brakes andfew bucks for paint. on my mountain bike, cost me 1250, i spent 300 on brakes, 400 on a helmet light, and probably over 100 bucks on tubes. my Cannondale R2000 cost 2500 and is still stock except for a computer

400 on a helmet light

JEEZ!

anyways, yeah i think i spent around 1000usd on my bmx.
it was a schwinn automatic that slowly evolved into a T1 barcode
as parts were broken and replaced.

my mountain bikes on the other hand...
i could probably have a motorcycle by now.

hmm...well $270 stock....160 wheels, 35 sprocket, 40 brakes, freakin 150 in brake cables...they just keep snapping, seat, and a bunch of other junk...it all totaled about $750 not including the tubes and brakes cables that i've busted

$150 in break cables? I can't say I've used more than 10 break cables in the 5 years i've ridden. what are you doing to them?

last time i was there there were a few doubles that were rideable. all you have to do is cut the bushes and plants and you can ride the rest. theres a dirt to brickwall wallride on the way there with a two foot gap, pretty easy

I'm willing to bet there are some guys here that spent a wad of dough over the years. How much total, and how much on a one time purchace/order.

I'd have top guess between 3 and 4 grand total for me.

Brian

No more than US$35k total. The most at one time was abuot AU$4k for our tandem frame. But I've bought myself and my brother a handful of MTBs in the $1,600 - $3,500 range.

Ouch.

Until I read that you worked a bike shop i was like what the hell.. no one needs more than 1 bmx bike unless theyre like street and racing.. so I guess thats what the 125 is for.. The warpig is still unneeded. what kind of road bike is it?

On my current bike, if i had bought all the parts at full price, i wouldve spent $727 plus $159 on parts taken from my old bike ($886). but by buying only whats on sale and parts off ebay ive only spent $346.
