So here's what I'm thinking of.
A traditional geometry carbon fiber frame. Nashbar carbon disc fork. 700c wheels with front disc brake. 700x28 tires. Drop bars with TT clip ons.
Mmmm....

My dream commuter, a Giant OCR road touring frame with with Marzocchi '29er shock fork, a 53/39/26 road triple, a 12-34 cassette, Disc brakes, a Nashbar multipositional mtb handlebar, Ritchey trail mix tires 700x35, and full Shimano XT set up. Oh yeah, a Rock Shox seatpost.

This is a dream bike and you are putting Nashbar **** on it? You need bigger aspirations, my friend.

lol I can't think of another full carbon fork that supports disc brakes.
I guess I can always buy the specialized sirrus and rip that fork off..

I got that, it's got XT on the back, tiagra up front, and ultegra levers. Steel fork though hehe.

Here's mine:

I just got the wheels from Harris cyclery. The Frame should be here on monday. What I need now is the gearing and brakes. Also aero bars with bar end shifters on em. Buying the rest of the components at the end of this month and I'm all set. Whoohoo...

You guys are all going to ask me to leave this thread now...My dream commuter is a custom built recumbent that I am going to build myself. Right now it is only in the "dream" stage, but when I get done, it will be the coolist dork machine you have ever seen. (reality check: I may never wake up from this "dream")

I am sorry to dissapoint you. The fork in this model even thought it looks aero-ish isn't carbon, try cro-mo but I can tell you this it's very smooth & quiet on the road imperfections

Oh no, it's full carbon, check the pic:

Screw that.. I'll just buy a sirrus and put drop bars on it. Ding!

So whats this recumbent look like? I stopped commuting on my Strada because I didn't like the maintence or beating up an expensive bike for my urban commute. My fixed gear bikes are much simplier, cheaper and require almost no maintence. However if my commute is ever beyond 10 miles again the Strada or other recumbent will probably be my ride.

My dream commuter is something that won't get stolen if I lock it in front of the supermarket on the way home, or if I end up having a quick drink after work and lock it outside the bar. I can't imagine commuting on a dream bike.

I'll save the dream for weekends.

My dream commuter is 700 x28 too. But I think a steel touring bike with fenders and all the braze ons is handy if you need to carry a lot once in a while. It now has front pannier racks.

custom curtlo built up like i want it (phill bb, veloce, hope mono hubs, maybe some custom cromoly cranks, steel stem... etc...)

it would be a tough ass cycloscross/cross county bike with a road bike geometry and some killer clearance for tires (i wanna put on some 700c 2" wide schwalbe big apples) and some kick ass stainless fenders...

sigh :)

When I was a kid I had a Coppertone, Schwinn Stingray. It was the first bike I bought with my own money that I earned in the bean fields. Of all the bikes I've owned, it was the coolest...bar none. My recumbent will be like that only longer as it will be a LWB. I might even weld a couple of Stingrays together to do the job. I like the way the Sun, EZ Sport looks, and rides, but I want to gear it in a way that will reduce the redundancy of the gearing. And it will have a fairing so I can cut through the wind easier. And lots of bags to pack all my stuff as I tour the Nortwest! I might even hook a trailer to the back of it so Maggie Mae (my trusted four legged companion) can go with me.
OK...so I've been found out...I may use this bike more for communing with God and His creation than commuting to work...but isn't that better?

I'm thinking about actually having my dream commuter built in the not-so-distant future. I just need to nail down some stuff, get a quote, and get the wife's ok.

We start with an ANT Light Roadster but I want Mike to maybe increase the angles a bit and tighten up the wheelbase, as much as possible while still fitting reasonable tires and fenders or fat CX tires w/o fenders. I want all the fittings for fenders and racks, drilled for brakes front and rear. I'd get it powder coated a light color, maybe some sort of dusty sage kind of thing.

In short, I'm envisioning a fixed gear all-rounder, suitable for commuting, light touring and trail use, and maybe even some weekend racing. If I want some gears on there, I can just build up a wheel around an internally geared hub and rock out, assuming I can get the chainline to go. That's a lower priority.

I'd probably run it most of the time with 25c tires, drop bars, and my favorite Turbo saddle.

Must be the 06' model, I have the 05' as my work mule even though doesn't have a single carbon piece its a sweet ride indeed.

It's flat barred stock but I saw a dude with exactly same model as mine matched to the color finish but w drops & got me a little jealus. Yes it does look even better.
