Recumbent - Comments I hear all the time on my ReBike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
On my ReBike ride across state last weekend I passed many regular bicycles and many highracer riders. These are some of the comments I heard
"You're gonna pass a lot of people with that thing and your big flag."
"I am going to crash if I try to keep up with you."
"Your hair is going to fall off from riding so fast."
"You're going to blow your snots on us when you pass ."
"No wonder you always go faster than the pack, you're cheating on that aero bike with the big flag."
"You can keep up with a motorcycle on that thing."
"Slow down, it's not a race when trying to go faster than a big flag."
"You look like a fast dork and my group looks like slow dorks."
"Slow down on that rusty fruit-cycle of yours."
"That ReBike is faster than my Aero."
"You beat us up all those hills AGAIN."
"No fair, you are too fast to draft, no one can keep up with that ReBike."
"You coast downhill way too fast to be street legal."
I guess I am darned if I do and darned if I don't. When I ride my $80 ReBike I pass everyone with expensive recumbents and regular bicycles. If there is a lesson to be learned it is do not spend a lot of money on a recumbent. An $80 used ReBike on ebay will be faster than most anything on the roads.

You left out this comment: "Mooky, it's time to increase your medications again." ;)

Spuds, get your own material or I'm going to have to talk to my agent. :D
All the rage at Interbike is ReBikes new Carbon ReBike. The real news is this ReBike will be faster and cheaper to buy than the overpriced hiracer recumbent product.
I have tremendous respect for the ReBike design team. They have been in on some of the hottest 'bent frameset designs for many years. ReBikes new cheap 70 dollar ebay bents are all GREAT designs. But the Carbon ReBike is a real crowd pleaser. Can I say Bacchetta Aero for under a thousand bucks? Heck No. Can I say Carbon ReBike for under $100? Heck Yes. And shod that darned ReBike with some good rolling tires at the next across state ride and all other expensive bicycles will be toast. No Carbon Aero, Ti Aero or expensive highracer needed.
A wise word to all American bent manufactures. Every one loves the ReBike.
Congrats to ReBike on another home run hit with the all new Carbon ReBike.

Ya know Spuds, I'd swear you're selling rebikes on ebay for $80, as much as you rave about those things. Did you find an abandoned warehouse full of them or something?

I luv the ReBike way of life. It seems that the very affluent recumbent riders who spend too much money on bents like the Aero are very rich and snobbish and they resent ReBikes. But I have to say as a true blue recumbenteur that a recumbent bicycle over $100 is NO deal.
Anyone who chooses to ride a stick pole recumbent with an expensive price tag needs some medication.

ReBike has produced a knock out punch to all competitors with the new carbon ReBike. The goal to market affordable carbon bikes for the rest of us will be a success. What more can you say about a fantastic riding affordable carbon recumbent that has the support of many recumbenteurs for so many years?
People with disposable income who are mostly over 40 identify with the ReBike in a big way. This is devastating for company's like Bacchetta who are struggling to find a market with all the overpriced pole bents they try to sell. Mass produced cookie cutter pole bents are no match to the super cutting edge recumbent like the carbon ReBike.
People with disposable income will continue throwing away money buying Aeros and the like. That is not cool and this will not go away anytime soon. There are many used overpriced Aeros for sale that do not sell. Rip off bent makers are laughing all the way to the bank IMO. I think pole bike makers like Bacchetta will survive till folks get tired of throwing their money away on a name brand and nothing else. The 60+ year old crowd continues to fracture hip and leg bones falling out of the seat of those pole bikes. When Bacchetta goes out of business the only producer of high end mass produced recumbent bicycles will be ReBike. They will be solo survivor in the mass market performance bent game.

I think you are driving some people up the wall with your comments on Rebikes, but I'm willing to listen. Do they have a site where I can check out their products? What kind of stuff do they make? I think I want a SWB recumbent, and I think I might try to build mine myself...to start with anyway.

well then anyone who buys a bike that looks like it is a electric scooter for the handicapped what can you say about that? I sdoubt that clunky thing can go as fast as most kids can run.

If you have never ridden a recumbent or hybrid (like the ReBike) you are missing the most comfortable ride on two wheels this side a Harley. The look of the 18-speed ReBike is beautiful with the 16 inch front wheel and the 26 inch rear but that look draws attention where ever you go. And everyone who tries a ReBike wants one. I have successfully negotiated some rocky dirt trails with no problems. On paved areas, it takes a "wedgie" rider a concerted effort to keep up with any ReBike. It will cruise at 27 mph easily and I have hit 40 mph with little trouble. I am not what you would call a dedicated rider. I am still as informal as when I was A kid, the only concession now is a helmet and a x-wide fanny pack to carry pretzels and riding food.
I purchased my used ReBike a few months after I gave away my old wedgie. I took one last ride and I realized how top-heavy I felt as if I was going to fall off. I had the exact same feeling when I test rode a Bacchetta Strada, Aero, Corsa and Cafe. 40 years of bike riding and not knowing why it was never "quite right" until the magic moment I rode the ReBike.
Quick shifting often results in rocket fast acceleration off the front sprocket. This is due to the long chain run common with all "bents." The 16 in. front wheel is smooth and fast. This is the fastest bike I have ever rode down any mountain switchback.
Finally, price. If you compare it to any overpriced high racer like the ones Bacchetta makes, it is a bargain at $75-80 used on ebay. All in all, the best way to get back into biking for us "aging boomers" is a ReBike. Not the over hyped and over priced high racer product. Who needs to pay thousands for some bike that is nothing but smoke and mirrors advertising when you can ride the real deal called ReBike.

steveknight, and all the others who replied to him: Mooky apparently posts to piss off another poster, Magillagorilla, by copying the wording of MG's blog posts and sticking "ReBike" (which is an old, out of production, all-steel entry-level bent) all over the place to mock MG's obsession with super-light recumbent racers. As a side benefit to him, Mooky also pisses off everybody else here.
So again, *please* don't feed the troll. Just add him to your ignore list, and configure your mail filter to junk all emails containing the string "Mooky has just replied" in them.

You know, when you transfer your bike computer from your roadbike with the 700c wheel you need to change the setting for the 16 inch wheel circumfrence. :) How about a Peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

My neighbor bought a carbon ReBike at Interbike. It is a beauty for $100.
The ReBike booth was by the yellow semi in the parking lot.
All carbon ReBike units were sold within hours of opening the doors at Interbike.
People love affordable recumbents like the carbon ReBike. Some folks are tired of paying thousands for recumbents like expensive highracers that do not deliver.

You wouldn't know satire and humour if they bit you on the behind and shouted "we're satiric and humorous": the Rebike thing is a typical example of repetitive humour: it was funny once, and after the third time it's become annoying as hell. Unlike satire, the only thing it brings peope to think of is "this Mooky guy is a pain in the rear".
As for fat-assed old guys, they ride bikes they like and quite frankly I don't think any of them gives a toss about your obsession with fast recumbents, your love-hate relationship with Bacchetta or your opinion on what makes Trek great. Fast or slow, they ride and enjoy themselves and have fun, instead of creating nonsensical embittered blogs and advertising whatever truth it's supposed to reveal, that nobody cares about, on this here forum.

What on my Blog site is bad? Point it out. It is an accurate account of personal expericence of the bent vs the DF world of cycling.
That other site was created in Chicago. So what. It was funny reading.
Hey show up with a recumbent any recumbent at a group ride with a bunch of real serious DF roadies and see how they treat you. I mean serious. None of this we wait for the slow riders crapola but an all an out focking race at certian points in the ride.
I could use the help from Chicago but still a bunch of no-shows for Tuesday nite group ride.
So carp away. My site is not fat old guy friendly. Don't read. Don't point your browser in my direction. Its for hard core performance recumbent folk and a few DF folk that bother to read that are into performance riding. It's a thing called passion and some will never have this as far as cycling goes. So do what you want and read what you want.
I have the right to speak and I have athority to speak from my experiences. Like it or not.
