Enouraging bike use in SF

Saw this in the SF Chronicle this morning, nice to see the city and event organizers are actively mentioning bikes.

"It looks like it's going to be one of those classic San Francisco weekends: a leather and fetish fair, a blues festival, an anti-war protest, a love parade -- and, of course, headache-inducing traffic.

In what organizers say will be an "only in San Francisco" weekend jammed with seven major events, residents and visitors are being advised to take public transportation, walk or ride bicycles. In other words, do anything but drive."

God I love the bay area.
And if all that does not interest you, you can bike tour on any number of back roads with minimal traffic.
Lot's of good climbs and some flat trails for the timid.
My fav, the 65 miles from San Jose to Livermore over the 4,200 ft summit of Mt. Hamilton through the remote San Antonio Valley and Mines Rd. :)

The sixth running of the infamous “Wounded Knee” ride. After meandering through Pleasanton and Livermore, the real ride begins on the wickedly fast Altamont Rd –- and returns via the diabolically and deceptively difficult Patterson Pass Rd. Total climbing is 4,900 ft. Our lunch stop is the Arco gas station/store located before the Patterson climb, so bring $$. We’ll pause for a minute at the top of Patterson to honor and reflect upon those heroic past riders that have endured bodily pain, missed turns, sucked derailleurs into wheels, and suffered in the heat like dogs on this same journey. We’ll depart from Niles parking lot.
