OK, the guy doing the strangling is Sikh, the two students, one of which got killed, unsure of caste but probably fairly high if they're in college. Certainly something lower than the caste of the strangler though - I think Sikhs are part of the Brahmin case but not sure. India is a complicated system of castes and if you're the wrong caste and even allow your shadow to fall on someone of a much higher caste, you can, and often do, get killed.

In other words it's the logical extension of the way the US is going.

- maybe in urban California, New York City, DC, SF, LA, Miami, et al, but i guarantee you that civility exists in the many of the mid-Western states and rural America!

Oh yeah in Heartland, Flyover, Red, whatever you want to call it, what's left of the real America, you're right, this would not have happened.

It could happen here, say, if a Cal-Berkeley student ran into a Stanford Alumnus at a game. ;)

Sikhism specifically rejects the caste system and is a totally separate religion from Hinduism which is the basis of the caste system

Oh yeah, the strangler's last name is Singh, means "lion" and is the "last name" of all Sikhs, I at least know that much. Even though they're outside the caste system I think they come out pretty high in the scheme of things over there.

Haha on the Stanford vs Cal students, Go Stanford!

Naaa, they would just laugh because stanford got owned by CAL football team last year. Or if they are cyclist they will laugh because CAL cycling team makes Stanford team look like bunch of kids on tricycles. :)
Anyway jokes a side, thats pretty messed up. The guy "lost his temper" but "he asked the other guy to get of the bike". Sounds more like his ego was damaged, and he killed the cyclist to get back at him.

Yup, especially not in Texas or Wyoming. Unless you're black or gay, but that's different.
