so this week i rode to work on monday and tuesday. heading in on tuesday i got this general idea that perhaps riding wasn't the best idea that day, but i carried on anyway. during the actual day on tuesday it got pretty clear that it hadn't been the greatest idea, but i didn't really want to hear either 'what do you expect if you bike when you're sick?' or 'leave your bike in the rack and let someone else drive you home' so i stayed. rode home; also probably not the smartest idea, but eh. it's just kind of hard to stop once you start. it's also sometimes kind of hard to tell how sick you are when you're sick, and riding is sometimes less hassle than trying to use our oh-so-great transit system.
so i called in sick on wednesday, out of some convoluted idea that since i really should have come home on tuesday they owed me a day. good idea, i guess, since i slept all day long. called in sick on thursday as well, because i really resent sick days spent being actually sick. i dunno; it also just seemed simpler to make the phone call than to sit around in my pjs going 'bike? drive?' to myself for an hour and not really happy about either idea.
so TODAY i did go to work, because this is getting silly. first i told myself that i should drive no matter how i might feel, just to make sure not to repeat tuesday. then i convinced myself that eh, if i wasn't sure anymore how sick i was, i should bike and use my state at the end of the ride as the measurement. so i biked.
got there, and got sent straight back home. they offered because there isn't really too much to do, and i took it because a) they offered, b) i feel great, and c) once i got there and finished my shower it dawned on me i hadn't packed any clean socks or underwear. i rode home by a different route i've always wanted to try, and now i keep swinging between the victory dance and the awful feeling that god's gonna smite me with scabies or something for it. this week would NEVER have been this interesting if i'd just stayed in my car.
