Bicycle Mechanics - Bike repair stands

I am looking for a good stand.

I checked out the LBS and have found:
Park PCS-1 $145 US
Ultimate BRS 70 $125 US
Wrench Force $125 US

My observations:
Park - no vertical adjustment
Ultimate - much vertical but/and has tripod stand
Wrench Force - some vertical not tripod (cross between park/ultimate)

Regardless... With my Giant TCR2, I will always have to take the seat off and install a dummy seat post to do any maintenance. Most people including Giant say to hang by frame or carbon fiber seat post is not recommended.

Seat off everytime... a bit of a pain.

I am leaning towards Wrench Force.

Any last minute suggestions/advice welcome.

Save money, and aggravation.Prop it up against an orange crate.

There are parts available for the Park. That is the only advantage in this line of stands. IMHO the Park Professional is the best stand in the portable line.

I wonder why that is. While I can understand not wanting to clamp to the frame I'm curious about the seatpost. I have CF seatposts on my bikes and my mechanic (and every one I've met) has suspended them by the seatpost. Surely if you set up the clamp right, you won't damage the post. If there's a concern about fatigue due to constant clamp/unclamp pressures on the post, most repair stand clamps I've seen also have a much larger clamp than the seatpost clamp on the bike and I would think that removing, inserting, and reclamping the post on the bike would do more harm than simply leaving it on.

You could always build one...I just did this past Saturday using scrap treated lumber, a little planning, a few screws and nails...cheaper than the $100 +/-...down side is that it is not foldable or adjustable height wise, but does a good job for my bikes...could have made it adjustable though, with wing nuts and bolts....:D

Is your seat post "round"? My seatpost is not "round" but the aerodynamic shape and doesn't fit into the clamp. See photo.

I usually hang my bike from the edge of the open garage door, using bungie cords. This is far less elegant than a good shop stand, but it solves the storage space and budgetary problems.

Yes... I've been using Easton CT2 posts on my bikes. I guess aero posts would be problematic in a clamp.
