Mountain Biking - Bassano Grimeca disc brakes: any good?

Guys,

I came across this website of an italian company that manufactures bicycle disc brakes. The products seem like high quality. Has anyone used them? Are they any good?

A friend of mine swears by them, including DH and heavy FR use...they can be a little finicky to set up, with minor shimming required. Once dialed, quality and feel are similar to Hope or other high end brake. Parts may be a little more difficult to come by. Mad Italian stylie.

These will probably be my next brakes.

I used both the System 8 and system 12 on one of my DH bikes for 4 years. They have very good modulation and lots of power. They are heavier then other brakes on the market and they do tend to heat up faster then Hopes or Hayes causing brake fade if you do a lot of super high speed runs or tend to ride the brake. Heat dissapation sucks. They are compleatly rebuildable.

Power wise they are not quite as good as Hope but just a bit better then Hayes. Modulation is about equal to Hayes.

System 8's use identical pads to shimano XT brakes.

The System 12's have a larger caliper and use larger pads and they are a pain in the a$$ to get a hold of. Most shops will order the wrong pads if you need them for the 12 and you have to use the Grimeca pads.

The System 17 (I think) is a six pot (6 piston) caliper. It is extreamly heavy and replacement pads run
100$USD.

You would be a lot better off getting hopes or Hayes.

p.s. Their mechanical brakes suck big time and their single caliper modles are not that great either
