Here is a nice Trek for $239. Might find a deal that takes it under $200 since it's an 05.

Lifetime frame warranty. 1 year on all the other parts. Not a bad deal for a new bike.

Iron Horse bikes often have a bit better components than other brands of the same price range. $200 is really low though. Consider spending $300-400 on a used bike and you'll get something *way* better.

For around $250 you should get something that will be very reliable and a great moutain bike.
Trek, Specialized, there are a ton of good brand names out there. I hear Fuji and GT are good also.

GT Aggressor (http://www.gtbicycles.com/mountain/catalog/detail.php?id=834&country=usa&brand=moun)
This is an okay bike. It will be reliable and it should be a lot cheaper

Hi - I got the Trek 820 in May, coming up on 1000 miles and really loving it - can't believe how good it is - but I haven't ridden an expensive mountain bike either.
I paid $219 at my local LBS, with a one-year anytime full tune-up
Peter

not really. I remember when I had a steel bike... it was quite light, although I didn't use it for off-roading.
