I have a Schwinn Voyager that I use for longer trips. However, Im really only familiar with my threadless stem setup on my Bianchi road bike. Here is my problem... The Voyager is a larger bike, most likely 57 - 58. However, the reach is very minimal, and the threaded stem is very short. What is up with that, is it because its a touring setup? Even so, it rides to cramped for me, and Im only 5'10. Could I go with a longer stem, are they all 1' setup - and what about the wedge system (to connect), is there two different types of connections to the headset that I have to look for with a different stem? Thanks,

The stem on that bike has nothing to do with the HS. The stem is a QUILL (L shaped) and is held in the steer tube by the long wedge shaped bolt.
The short threaded part at the top of the steer tube (Fork) is to tighten and adjust the HS.
The quill can be replaced with a longer one.
