Hi everyone. My dad handed down a Peugeot Optima from about 87'-89' I think. I've used the beauty for a number of years till the bottom bracket shell stripped it's threads out and I'm finally getting around to restoring it. I know the frame is Reynolds 531 but neither me or my dad know if the forks were high tensile  or also 531 :) . Can anyone here clear this up. Thanks.

Are you sure it's 531? 'Cause all the ones I've seen from that era were "mangalloy" (whatever that is).
And although I'm not certain of your model w/o pics, I'm pretty sure the forks were the same as the frames on all Peugeots of that era.

Yeah, definately 531. I've no pics but it was purple and yellow, Shimano RSX100 Biopace 14speed, RSX seatpost, ATAX stem and Philippe bar, Mavic rims (not sure which model) and whitewall 700x20c tyres. The bike went for around £600ish when new. Hope that helps.
I'm pretty sure that RX100 made its debut in the 1990 model year. These components seem quite low for a Reynolds 531 frame. By this time, on my (North American) side of the big pond, Peugeot was preparing to abondon the US market and had stopped importing the high end models, with the low and mid range models being manufactured under license in Canada. The Canadian manufactured RX100 models of the early 1990s featured Ishiwata tubing. Even in the late 1980s, the 105 equipped Triathlon model only used Reynolds 501. The last Reynolds 531 model that I recall in North America was the Deauville, which was Ultegra equipped. Apparently there was a big discrepancy in the models for the two markets.

I've noticed the frame number can help some of you guys, so here it is- Y0063727. Also, there is no mudguard eyes/rack eyes or anything else like that which leads me to believe it was meant for one thing only, racing. The handling is unbelievably sharp. Hope that helps a bit. Thanks.
