always remove your helmet and bag, when getting in fight in street with a guy who just tried to run over your friend.
Huh, I'd think at least the helmet might be an asset...
Details?

A bag swung hard with a twofour in it could be a formidable weapon.

ok on a ride home last night, it was me my friend derek and friend katie. we had just went through a intersection (we had the green light). we were riding with derek and katie in front and i was behind them. so this big dodge truck takes off from the light coming up behind us ,he starts to honk alot so us being in the right derek gives him the finger. he is beside katie and derek by now he takes a hard right and almost hits katie( by almost i mean like with in a inch or two) so i ride up along side, as his door is opening i hit his hand and keep riding,i think thats it i turn around to see derek standing in the road toe to toe. The guy hits derek in the side of the head, i start riding back to help, derek statrs punching the guy in the head i mean hard. as i get there the dude sees me and grabs me, some how or another i end up on the bottom of a pile with me helmet behind my head and the strap choking the crap out of me. luckley derek rolls him over and we hold him till the cops come. now a few things when we were holding him down all you could smell was alcohol i knew the guy was drunk, one of those little red and white mints fell out of his pocket as we were fighting. when the cops showed up they told us we need reflectors on our bikes. katie asked if the guy was drunk the cops just said no. anyway no charges were pressed so we got to go home. i had a small fat lip and scrapes on my knees derek had a pretty banged up knee. all said and done it was dumb the guy was an a$$hole we should have just let him drive past .oh well it's over now.

Drunk drivers suck @sshole.
Also, clipless shoes can be quite hindering in a fight as well.

I don't know - a big metal cleat to the shin area could do some serious damage.
and cyclocross shoes with spikes may be helpful...

I'm really surprised the cops didn't nail the guy for DUI, what state are you in, the State Of Inebriation?

If you have road cleats and lose your balance you become a very easy target to kick... trust me... I know

Truck dude came up behind and honked a lot, so Derek flipped him off? I think at that point you were no longer "in the right." And then you hit him? I know he swerved at one of you, but what were you tryin to accomplish? Just let it go, man, and live to ride another day.
i know its not really the point, but it sounds like your helmet may not have been tight enough(?)
granted, a good enough impact probably could've knocked it back no matter what.

Seriously, you have the most illiterate, unprofessional police I've ever seen, judging from the report. If the other party questions someone's sobriety, a test should be administered...

That happens to ba a pretty frequent Hungarian family name...
BTW, did you guys take up the entire single lane, leaving no room for the guy to pass? Or the outside lane of two?
