Hey my LBS is looking to sell me a Jamis cross country XC 05 model MTN bike.....know anyhting about them? are they good decent? what do you all think of the specs of this bike http://jamisbikes.com/bikes/05_cc1.html theyt are selling for $319.00 good deal or no any help would be awesome.
Sounds like an average price, no huge discount or anything; but, I can't say for sure: if it's a good store with a good service plan or other worthwhile perks, then it might be a great deal.
I'm not a huge fan of the fork they chose, but it's not any worse than what another bike in the price-range would come with and it can easily be replaced some day if you decide to upgrade. Same with the shifters and derailleurs. However, if you are patient and able to save up another ~$50-200, you can get quite a step up in components. The Jamis Cross Country 2.0 has slightly better components (not much better of a fork though) and is only a little more expensive. A Specialized Rockhopper is a bit more of a jump in price, but likewise makes it up by being better in every way (of course, in the Rockhopper's price range, all kinds of options open up to you :)).
That bike looks like a hybrid that wants to be a mountain bike. I have heard good things about Jamis bikes but that one would make me hurt on any kind of cross-country riding in Pennsylvania.

I ride a Jamis Dakota XC. I love it. You shoudl see what the dealer can get you for a 2004 or 2003 model. You can save big bucks which means a nice bike for the same price.
Mine was a 2004 which i bought a week ago and i saved about $500.
Good luck!

I have a Jamis Dakar that i bought in may of this year. Its a 2004 model and i got it for $500 (course i also did buy two bikes at the same time). I love this bike its a great XC bike and the frame can with stand my big ass (250lb). The only thing that i had to upgrade was the shock cause it wasnt designed for such a big dude. Other then that it has been a great investment.
