I own a 2001 Giant NRS 3 and the drivetrain(cassette, crank, and chain) is getting old and worn out. I was wondering what company i should go with for the drivetrain. I'm debating between Shimano, Race Face or Sram. I just put new shimano xt 9 speed shifters and shimano xt front derrailler. I do mountain bike races and I'm starting to do some more competitive and challenging stuff, if that will influence your opinion. I also don't want to overspend.

i think sram is the way to go, ive been running a rear x.7 all summer and ive never had a problem(also sram chain and cassette).
It'll depend on your budget (and if you have any weight targets), especially for the crank. You don't have to stay with one specific company for all of the components...I have a mix of all three you described, Race Face crank, Shimano chain and SRAM cassette.

I've been getting great performance from my X.9 rear but I don't think he was asking about rear derailleurs...he wouldn't be able to run a SRAM rear derailleur because of his new XT shifters.
