Don't think only car-free folks should be involved, tho. There are many of us who are car-lite when the entire family unit is considered, and a phase of car-liteness is usually necessary in order for folks to eventually make the jump to car-free. Plus, "car-free" would need definition. Does it mean eschewing cars, or does just not owning one of your own count, regardless of how often you might carpool, or otherwise help other folks justify their car use?

Personally, if a person is dedicated to using cars less and bikes more for their transportational needs, I'd welcome them and their ideas to the FAQ and the discussion.

If non-car-free people were to be included, we would need to be especially careful to ensure the FAQ doesn't become a commuting FAQ. That's a whole different world that can sometimes look a bit similar to the non-car-free person...

Agreed, defintily two different things when it comes down to ceratin aspects, like having no choice but to bicycle/walk/public trans when the weather turns really nasy or you get sick, need to purchase LARGE items, see friends across town or state, etc.

Agreed. I would like to hear a lot from those who have children and whose family units are car-free.

There is no definitively correct way to live carfree. Some people have access to great public transit systems, others don't. Some are able to rent cars easily, others can't. Some people live in urban areas, others don't.

A less ambitious FAQ for alternative transportation resources might be very interesting, though.

I thought the entire sub-forum IS a faq center for living car-free? =)

Good point, becnal. If we answer everything in a FAQ, what will we talk about it? How will new folks make their first interactive contact? It's not like this zone is routinely swamped with posts like some of the other areas.

I agree with syd and becnal. If anybody has a question, start a thread to ask it.
