Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

???? How are you going to have it at the picnic and leave it in Phillie at the same time?
Ideas running in head on build.....very bad
my girlfriend is coming down for the picnic, she is going to bring it in her car.
yeah, ideas are running through my head too, but i promised photons i would build up my cyclocross bike before i built up the guerc.
plus that kind of makes sense with winter around the corner anyways.

well, build the cx bike if you wanna race cx. don't do anything on my account.
i hear you about taking your time though, it'll probably be spring before i really need a road bike, so i might as well take my time and get the parts i've always wanted.

RyanD is the King of Rock now!
I caught a cold from the rain Polo-Thursday night! I'll kick it eventually. Friday's Mass was twice as big as September's!! 9 people! It ended with cake baking and kabob n soysages grilling. And in the end, a showing of the Bride of Frankenstien put that party to sleep.
I couldn't even try to go Sunday to the cool place run by an ass, anyway. As well, my efforts to garner a following for it yielded a weak response. But earlier sunday, me, Spud and Silverchels spotted Tink, Elisa and Mo getting Papusas! Mo smiled at me in that wierd, tongueful moving, wide-mouthed infant way, blessing me in that parking lot. Well....then my team lost and then my derailer broke off. Hey, it's a blessing still.
Silverchels is in the vicinity. I've been running to and fro with her and am so tired. She has my heart though.

For those not doing polo practice tonight - I'm riding to Bethesda and maybe initiating a new Pirate ...
Start time is 7:15pm from the tennis court parking lot at Haines Point (my friend Alana, who I'm slowly introducing to cycling, is showing up and doesn't know how to drive to any other start point). From there we're heading to the CCT in Georgetown and making our way north. We'll come back down through Rock Creek. The pace is gonna be slower, with possible stops (she's still new at this). But if you're cool with that you're welcome to join in!

Any pirates own a drill and a stud finder? I'd like to put some holes in these university-owned walls and mount a bike rack to the wall.
Also, any suggestions for single bike wall racks?
edit: any thoughts on this rack (http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?PRODID=64698&CATID=244)?

Do they come in British racing green?
No but seriously, how big are those and how do I use them to mount a bike?
I want the bike to remain horizontal and "flush" against the wall.

you don't need to use those exact hooks.
for real? here's the instructions.
a) screw hook into wall (preferably with stud behind it)
b) hang bike from hook in whatever orientation you feel is best for your chi
+1 to finding a stud. VERY important.

So does anybody have a drill and stud finder?
instant stud finder:
1) take hands
2) point out thumbs
3) lift hands near head with thumbs pointing in
4) "i found a stud right here"
5) go do that to the girls in your dorm. they'll love it!

if youd like to drop ryan into the category of studs, then yes.
alternately:
1) get a hammer.
2) tap *softly* on the wall.
3) you'll know where the studs are behind the drywall when the noise goes from "hollow" to "compact".

Or get a hammer and strike sharply at the wall, if the hammer does not go thru, you've found a stud! If it does, keep striking....and drinking

I was in a car accident today on the way to work. I was blind-sided by a redlight runner. No worries, I'm healthy as ever now. My 88 Nova, The Toad, is bent and smashed all over the front, but the lights still work and it still runs. Automobiles are dangerous. I spent 6 hours waiting to be seen at the nearest hospital, Greater Southeast -where DC General operations were moved to after being forced from their space near RFK a few years ago. I'm fine, with a little cut on the back of my head from the bandana knot, or the vinyl seam of the headrest. I love a headrest! I couldn't make Polo tonight after all. Auto insurance owes be big now!
