Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

dammit, pirates... looks like the most craptastic weather ever tonight, including torrential rains, gale force winds, lows in the 30's. add a plague of locusts and i think we'd be on to something.

so... do we...
A) plan to play anyway, knowing turnout may be dismal...
2) get together and drink instead, cuz that's what we do best...
c) wimp out, stay home, and build shelters for the coming apocalypse

Can I vote twice? I vote for A and B, with a modification to B, such that we, as per normal, drink while playing in the rain, rather than bailing. Come on, it's friggin November. Wha'd you expect? And I invited a new guy, so A (dismal turnout) may not be as bad as you think.

I can see by the initail response to my email this morning that some of you aren't too enthused about the idea of riding tonight.

There has been little said of what our options are for this evening.
So let me put them on the table..

A) we scrap the whole thing and do it again some other time (next saturday?)
B) we race it anyways with fewer people and less than desirable conditions
C) we don't consider it a race, more like your average pillage, and ride the course together as a group
D) happy thanksgiving, i'm ****ing out of here you mother****ers. See ya after the break!

i think folks need decide whether the pirates will ride through winter (knowing that all evening rides will be cold and dark) or switch to bike maintenance/film watching/board game playing. The latter doesn't sound very piratey, but it seems like people just aren't into the cold and dark thing, and we need to be realistic here. or we could ride during the day on the weekends. I'll post a poll on the email list-- how does that sound?

you can plan whatever and whenever you want, but Rico's a sweetheart, and I plan on doing his benefit race.

I'm all for rides through the winter, but I'm not into the racing so much. I like the standard pillaging as a group. The poll is a great idea.

basically, we're trying to figure out if low turnout lately is due to scheduling or just the weather. there's no reason for folks to put time and hard work into planning stuff if folks are hibernating till spring. oh, and it's anonymous. please be honest. don't try and be all hardcore about riding through winter if you aren't going to show up.

ok, ok. one week till the Rico race. i know jrowe's coming. it would be cool if we could recruit some new yorkers too. either way, friday night pillage. who's up for what? (should this be our holiday party? can we do secret santa?)

i know a race was proposed for friday night. i sort of think we should stick to a pillage. lots of pirates don't like to race, and there's a race saturday anyway. how about something more ridey, for the non-racing pirates?

Engaged the Prospect park race thread. May have a few neo Brooklyn kids coming next week for the Rico race. If Fri is going to be a mini BFFGMnG, we should have a crit race on a government facility. Ok, any crit race would be nice. But hey, a night ride thru the monuments and some pitch dark bike paths b4 home base would be cool too. may be my last weekend of freedom :P Is Fri a Cm night too?
