( I save the NYT magazine for Sunday evening. It's just, it's not newsie. So I can't possibly read it at the same time as the paper. It's just my MO.)

the pirates' weekly agenda:
Wednesday polo
Saturday holiday party

people keep asking me, "what's this about a ride before the holiday party?" honestly, my providing pie for the party necessitates me sitting in Peter's kitchen (since I can't carry the pie on my bike, though i'll bring over homemade crust and filling) and assembling said pie and baking it for about 45 min before the party. this way, it will be warm, peter's house will smell great, and we can all be happy. so, i would not be the planner for this ride. someone else?

the ride would be optional, for people who can carry their pot luck tastiness and bring their bike at the same time. hats off to them.

people also have expressed concern about who is bringing what. let's just post here.

i'm bringing pie.

Sounds pielicious....I am bringing Aloo Gobi.

On a slightly different subject, and this is probably one only the 703's will be able to answer...are there any stores in Arlington which have a good stock of spray paint, I need paint for the current project, please help!

I've been asked by two confused pirates what day the pirate holiday party is. The Pirate Party is this Saturday, the 17th, at PNC's (pre-party ride optional). the 30th is a different story altogether, that is the New YARRR Pillage.

Yes, can everyone post what they are bringing to the potluck, it would be great if all of us brought pie, but that wouldnt be much of a potluck meal. lots of side dishes would be good, few desserts, some main dishes. Also the party is looking to be around 20 people, so bring as much of your dish as you can make/bake/carry.

The ride is being planned by Christoph, as he just posted a minute ago; i'd recommend you drop off your potluck goodness at PNC's beforehand. I think its going to be a nice day for a long ride on one of the trails. any questions about it, ask him (http://www.bikeforums.net/private.php?do=newpm&u=10191).

Greetings ye scurvy scalliwags,

I met a few of you (and already knew a few of you) at the Rico Suave Alley Cat. Thought I would introduce myself to the forum and inquire as to any rides going on this week.

Thanks.

Ha, to find a real hardware store these days?
Ace hardware, there is one on Lee highway near the toyota dealer a little further up than spokes etc. it is a fun climb, so you will not care what the colors are when you get there :) (this is a maybe)
National Wholesale Liquidators in Eden center (7 corners), may have a large stash. The one up the road from me on Rhode Island had a very good selection of rattle cans, but nothing fancy. (also a maybe, but much much better odds). You can get to the one on RHode Island Ave just off the RI ave metro station. Or you can ride 10 blocks east from me... bring a very very very good lock.

I'm afraid I don't have much to say so I end up lurking like a...well I suppose like a pirate might. Now, if we were talking about the 1979 classic movie The Warriors, well then I'd be able to contribute.

On an unrelated note, what time is the party this Saturday?

Speaking of chanteys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_chantey) this tells you almost everything you'd ever want to know, but for the full experience this link from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00001OHA5/qid=1134498745/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-1242587-2720921?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) is not to be missed, check out the samples for download, everyone has a favourite.

That's true, but they do lurk before they strike. You know sailing under a normal flag then when the victim gets too close to escape...BAM!...Joly Rodger goes up and the victim's booty is taken at pie-point. Pies are the prefered weapon of the Pirate right? Or was it the cutlass...no, no I'm pretty sure it was the pie.

We should add "Crankstan Shanties" to that Wikipedia article. Crankstan Shanties are sung by rag-tag malcontent, and often drunken, urban cyclists to keep a group rythem and alert motorists of their presence on the road. Examples are "Pirates' Pillage" and "Dead Man's Pie".

My casserole will by goat-free and veggie-friendly, for one.

Jonny 5's issues as interpreted by Sick of it all

Before us is an empty slate
we can impress how we please
Bombard them with the usual schlock
whatever we've got up our sleeve

Teach them that violence can solve all their problems
Teach them to act on a whim

The horror the one we present is just where the horror begins...
Violent fantasy, comes reality the effect will be quite a tragedy

We'll point the finger
we'll point the finger
we'll point the finger
we'll point the finger
of blame, Before us is a twisted world
no one can work out the knots we've got
an enemy here they could be blamed for a lot

We'll say they're the problem,
we'll say they're the cause
they'll be the scapegoat now - goatless - we'd be on the spot
we can't let the truth come out If
the pressure cracks another
and they know who to come after whe'd be goatless

jonny5
12-13-05, 02:04 PM

I think he was making reference to Booger's wealth of knowledge on the subject of goat pressure cooker construction-- made from an empty Franzia box and a hotplate. But everyone knows pressure-cooked goat is way too tough, and one would rather be goatless in such an instance. Oh wait, it was a goat smoker anyway. nevermind.

smoked goat, pressure-cooked goat, boiled goat, steamed goat, pan fried goat, buttered goat, sauteed goat, blackened goat, bbq'd goat, etc. are all forbidden in my house on the final day of 2005.

However, I'll concede that MORE GOAT IN '06 is the way to go if we ever want the political scene to change in this country.

I can hear the masses chanting now: MORE GOAT IN '06! MORE GOAT IN '06! MORE GOAT IN '06!!!
