Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

so y'all think you can eat a burrito? The burrito bandits challenge you to a burrito eating contest! choose your fastest eater, for a head to head burrito eating demolition derby!

The winner gets to take a picture of the loser and write "worlds worst burrito eater" on it or something.

as long as I don't get sick AGAIN, me and a few other bandits will be at the frostbite, we should have gang patches on or bags, you'll see us, and we'll fight!

i was riding down u st last night around 9pm and saw a guy at the intersection of of 13th riding a red ss/fixie. he didn't seem to know how to ride it very well, was wearing hightop basketball shoes with no socks, no gloves, a huge coat that wasn't condusive to riding, etc. seemed out of place.

it looked like a nice bike...possibly schwinn, red, nitto drop bars with white tape on the ends. seemed kinda odd...

ride recommendation... today i hit up the national arboretum. it has a 3.5 or so mi loop that has great hills, very little traffic, and some cool views of the city. Entrance is on R street just east of Bladensburg Rd, open 9-5 every day.

hey, im new to the DC area and havent been on this forum in a few months due to a holdup getting online access to the house in NOVA i'm living it. (I know, wierd right, thought this was a big city...)

anyway, i love pirates, work full time for apple courier inc and am hopelessly obsessed with bikes, boats and the life styles associated with them...

I've met a few good people in the messenger community but would love to do some group riding that wasn't necessarily so competition oriented as the alley cat scene. I was also wondering about the CM's around here...

I guess more than anything i just wanted to say hi.

hey, julie here.
CM is first friday 6pm at Dupont. This Friday's had 9 people show up. We need help.

Pirates ride just about every week. Today at 12:30 we'll be at the tennis courts on Haines Point. C'mon out. We ride, we drink, we ride some more. Today's ride is more ridey. Evening pillages are more drinkey.

Polo is coming up this Wednesday at 7pm at 14th & K.

The pirate rides are not competitive, though some people like to ride really fast and drop the pack.

Today at 12:30 we'll be at the tennis courts on Haines Point.

Looking forward to this. Anyone showing after 12:30 should ride counter clockwise to find us (an ol pirates trick I've learned). Any and all welcome! I'm planning to ride for a couple hours. Followed by the grilled cheese special. Looks beautiful and no winds outside! Out cat.

well didn't make this one (obviously), but I def. want to come out and meet everyone. My buddy and i started a bike 'gang' in the town i used to live. We rode on sundays at 1pm and i was just thinkng about how much i missed those rides. It was really laid back, did about 30 miles total and stopped half way through to talk shop and eat chip-whiches.

When I first started it there was 3 or 4 of us that would meet, ride then end up back at my house where I would show peeps how to do simple maintnance on their bikes. By the time i moved there was about 30 of us, we had monthly meetings, petitioned the city for bike lanes and bike path funding, lead group rides for people that didnt ride much so they could feel more comfortable riding on busy streets, had a bike recyclery and were looking for store fronts to start a co-op bike shop. It was really amazing.

now i would just love to meet a group of people to just ride/hang with on the weekends. Is the sunday ride a weekly thing?

chimblysweep - did you do one of the check points at the Rico alleycat? You look really familiar...

Good ride! Great weather (for january)! Cool peoples! (except for drive-by snarks from roadies) Who could ask for more. I'm all for making weekend ridey-rides a regular thing. Here's to the pirates, cradle to grave!

This is awesome. Well done, and how cool that things gelled and grew hair like that.

You should come meet/ride/hang w/us. I think they sell chipwiches at the haines club house even, if you don't do grilled cheese. Which don't make no sense to me but to each his/er own. Yeah, and lurkers should come out too. Lurkers need to start participatin.

I'm picking up the mallets, and i'll see you folks at sherwood at 7, RAIN OR SHINE.

i got a rather disturbing phone call from a fellow pirate asking whether the game was on for tonight, since it's (*EEK!*) gently raining. I remind you that pirates are hearty and polo is funner in the rain. I also remind you that we recruited two new people who should be coming and cannot be let down.

thus,
see you at 7pm at sherwood.

NEW RULE: tink is not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages from glass bottles at polo anymore. why? because, even though he didn't show up for polo last night, his presence was felt, in that glass from his bottle-breaking last week flatted spud this week.

spud, care to elaborate? who's a ******lips?

ps - in case i haven't told y'all this lately, you rock, pirates.

Dear Pirates,

I hate my knee. I have had to dock my ship in port if you will. The pain got so bad on my ride a few days ago that I road home with one leg. Being a good pirate I yelled, Yar! at everyone that looked at me funny.

I plan on resting it till Sat. I don't think I will race, but plan on representing anyhow.

I hate being landlocked.

I was so inspired by LBK's perfectly framed over-the-head shot (http://static.flickr.com/42/84040412_928bc7b2be.jpg?v=0) that I made this DC Pirates wallpaper (http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=86431380&size=o). I was also inspired by the fact that I have expensive Adobe software that has sat fallow for far too long. But be fore-warned it's designed for 1024 X 760 resolution.
