Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Pancakes are the new pie.
I'm planning a ride for Tuesday, February 28, National Pancake Day.
Save the date, suckas.
woo hoo! i'll actually be in town on that date. let's cancel the wednesday ride and do this instead.
ps- LBK- anyone who ever insults your bike deserves a facepunch. Insulting someone's bike is like insulting their child. It is always wrong. That and your bike is purdy. I think they're jealous.

yey! HOpe yer having a blast in LA. The World Cup sounded awesome.
and
It was just the rear wheel that was insulted. Admittedly, it's fugly and sketchy looking. There were no insults or attitude about the bike. I think I just encountered someone who is opposed to conversions and thinks they're unsafe, even tho I have brakes, don't skid, etc. He really wanted me to put a freewheel on it. :( booo.

Tomorrow morning, i will be having a small surgery to fix my nose due to a bicycle accident a few months ago.
Just come to polo. Tink can take care of that nose,no prob. And you'll get Sparks to make you feel better. :D
Good luck,heal fast,try not to sneeze. ;)

-Revolution Clarendon never ceases to make me feel ******** and/or underwhelmed by their service.
-Go to Cap Hill Bikes if you want to get hit on.
-City Bikes if you want mixed messages. (they both installed my axle and criticized it)
-Spokes in Vienna is the only place so far where someone spent a lot of time with me explaining stuff, and didn't make me feel bad for not being able to articulate in bikespeak as adeptly as some. And so I dropped some cash there. See how that works?
This has been my LBS experience in a nutshell, all broadly generalized by me. Because these were my experiences.
Big Wheel in Old Towne if you want your chain tension to disappear 2 blocks from the shop while turning into traffic; admittedly the BB was shot the day i bought it and probably did not help matters.

Yeah, I wouldn't blame them totally for that.
They did come through for me on spacers.

Oh god yes. I get my stitches out on Tuesday. I am so game. I'll bring the real maple syrup. None of that aunt Jemima sh*t. [edit: I guess that is next month. Thanks LBK. I am quite confused right now.]
Dave, check that picture again. It says 1993, right on it. Water under the bridge my man. he is yours. Scarlett Johansson is mine.
And when i'm well, we shall go to the fixie bashing lbs and tell the guy he can shove it right up....er...he can go put a kickstand on his Colnago.
I have a really good friend that works on and off at Spokes. Dwayne is his name. His fix is a conversion.
I'm doing well, thanks for all the concern. Actually, really fabulous about now.

That's a great shop. I double flatted on the way to work one day and shouldered my bike a few blocks as I only had one tube. The shop wasn't supposed to open for 2 more hours, but someone (who was inside doing payroll) saw me outside and opened up just so I could get a tube and use their floor pump. It's little things like that that earn lifelong customers.

Spokes in Vienna may be cool, but avoid the one on Quaker just off King St near 395. They totally screwed up the pedals on a Specialized Sirrus I bought(one came off while riding, and both sets of threads were trashed) and messed up the set-up on the rear brake. After having it looked at by another shop,I made them take it back.
Revolution Cycles in Georgetown gets props. They've always treated me right. I go to them for most of my work.
City Bikes in Adams Morgan has been good/bad,depending on who's working. Their shop in Chevy Chase installed the front wheel on my Milano backwards and had the tires way overinflated.
Bicycle Pro shop in Georgetown is good. I get my Octopus pedals there cheap.
Performance bike in Rockville is ok. The one in Springfield is sketchy.
REI in Rockville is good.
Big Wheel in Georgetown is sketchy, the salesmen at both Bethesda and Lee Hwy are indifferent.
All the HTO's I've been to seem ok.

and on a not pain pill related topic...
If I was going to be in this hemisphere, I would be gathering a team of pirates to road trip to stupor bowl.
why?
cuz i've heard it's one of the best parties on earth, and cuz those midwestern folk are friendly as hell.
but isn't that an insane drive?
yes.
what's the race like?
let's just say there are two winners - one who rides the checkpoints and one who rides the checkpoints and drinks at each of them.
isn't minneapolis cold?
yes.
didn't the last pirate road trip have, um, erm, issues?
yes, but that was then and this is now. the curse is gone. the drinks are cheap.
who will bail out the clink?
that depends on what he gets arrested for.
hey, it was just an idea.
Stuporbowl: youre not going to be around for it? and dave isnt going to be around for it? so who is interested? May be a good time to practice brakeless racing for Monstertrack.

All, I'm heading up to NJ tomorrow, so the mallets are where you left them. Will also be in brooklyn too. When is this Stuporbowl? and is Ninja on the way or near by? a double road trip???
btw: DCM, talk to me baby about the meds :P
stuporbowl is in february, i believe, ninja and chicago would be on the way, but youre still on probation, so i guess no chicago for you
glad you're doing well, babe. what kinda meds you got? ;)
http://products.amelabs.com/img/discount-meds-hydrocodone.jpgPLUShttp://www.erowid.org/pharms/acetaminophen/images/acetaminophen_summary1.jpg
Hydrocodone + acetaminophen = vicodine. Acetaminophen multiplies the effect of the Hydrocodone to whhhooooo shi+ levels.
Not anything fun, but i am also on: Cephalexin (antibiotic)

And then, drum roll please:

The all powerful Percocet.
So, there it is kids. My room is starting to look a lot like thee Pharmacy Bar. To come to think of it, BF too.
According to the doc, taking acetaminophen with any pain killer will amplify the effects. Just a little advice.
And no, i will not be sharing. Rx drugs are only to be used under a Doctors supervision. Unless you really beg me. Like with mac and cheesless and Indian food. Hey, i guess everyone has their price.

so tell us about the blood on the front hub of the Nishiki (which is lonely since its recovery)
Eh, it finally washed off. I would ride it more but those surly hubs aren't nearly as nice as the Dura Ace on the Langster. What can i say. It will be a bad weather bike. I did ride it on new years. I'll ride it more when i get a new wheel set for it. Also, it has those Kevlar Armadilo's on it. I dread changing them. It has 25s on it right now. Can i just swap down to 23s? Are road tires hub specific? Silyl question, but i don't know.

on a completely aesthetic front, would this bike look better with red hubs and black rims or red hubs and red rims? (most likely deep profile rims)

i say red hub, white wall V's, and red tires
maybe you could get crazy with some red spokes

ok, i'll get the whiffle balls. you met mannakai at Asylum the friday night before LateNiteFrostBite. it was a busy night with all the world's most expensive not-so-jumbo slice pizza, Metro drinking and pissing and watching Christian school those yuppy kids in darts...i'm sure you'll recognize her though.
naw, white is the color i'm concealing, its just now that i realize its mostly red and white and pretty much only the components and fork are black. the red hubs are definite though.
