Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How about an excursion to the unexplored land in quest for a new sail or other piraty parts instead of the Sunday morning ride:

I think it would be fun. I'd have to think about it a little more, but I could maybe drive about 4 peops. It's near Fredneck, sorta.
i'd say after laps n cheese

If we go, we should consider having some room for parts to bring back...
I could drive, too.

The meeting is from 9am (when we should be there) to 2pm. I would guess it's either l'n'c or swap.

So that swap thing looks interesting if anyone has room for a bum leg pirate.
P.S. Did not find g-d in Utah.

Booger, you were visiting your many wives in utah, eh? I'll have room for a pirate polygamist in the good ship honda accord if you like. I'll firm things up tomorrow, whether I'm a go or no.
Spud, is there anyway you could get closer, say rosslyn/court house? Rest-on is out there. I was thinking 9 departure at the earliest...
probably could meet closer, christoph and i may go up and buy everything good at 9:03am and wait for you guys at the oily weener stand.
wow, westminster is a solid hour and a half away.

1.5 hours of pure '86 honda accord luxury, baby. Love it. I just passed my safety inspection, so we probably will stay alive on 495. probably. you in?
i might make it to BB before the ride...it goes pretty slow anyways and i think we're headed up to AU tonight.

1. Swap meet, wow, any room for 1 more? Actually, we can take my car too, and I have the roof racks on so we can bring back 2 whole bikes. :P
2. Which place is Burito Bro's? CTown?

Swap meet: who's in fer real, so we know how many drivers are needed. and when do people want to leave, realistically now? oily weiner jokes aside.
I can take 4 people max, and that's with someone sitting in the middle. I have a trunk, no roofrack. but i'm not planning on buying a whole bike. hopefully, just a new/used saddle.

Let's say, anyone who wants to ride with me, I can pick you up from rosslyn metro stop at 9am, so as to avoid me getting lost picking people up. I'll drop people off wherever afterward. Is that amenable to anyone?

I'm in and I would say we should be there as early as possible (9:00-9:30 but no later then 10).

The way I see it, you can still get a table to sell. And if you plan to sell a whole bike I think you can do that without even having a table.

The big yellow Lemond frame has to go, as well as a pink & pearl bianchi frame. But these are frame and fork only. Maybe if I can slap a pair of old wheels on them....thinking thinking...smoking smoking
I have a CAAD 5 Cannondale frame I should get rid of, a Thompson seatpost that's too big for my commuter and a hankering to get a new set of rear panniers. I bet the swap is a great place to claim some wool socks and stuff too....
I'd really like to go, but I have to be in Baltimore by early afternoon (superbowl party). I can drive people up but I can't bring anyone back, so if an extra car is needed one way ... otherwise, any objections to joining the caravan in Rosslyn and parting ways after in Westminster?

I think I would like to get up their early and get back sooner than latter. The early bird gets the worm. If two or more car are going I would not mind being in the "early car"

who is "in"? thats the first question. I would like to get THERE early and get back early.
DCEmily: It is not a track frame, it is a (nice) roadie, it was all Pink at one time. Must have sat next to a window for a bunch of years. Fetching avatar as always!
meanwhile the NEED to get a real truing stand is killing me KILLING ME!!!!!!

I can believe how much fun Critical Mass was tonight. A bunch of us just rolled thru the city and everyone was happy and no one got arrest or dead. Actually, hardly a car incident at all. Early Spring is great!
Well, it finally happened ... my bike got jacked. WTF?! 30 bikes on Connecticut Ave between Dupont and 18th and MINE was the one that got ripped off. It was in front of the citibank and Earnst and Young Building near 1200 Connecticut Ave friday night between 7:30 and 11:30p. Its not even that nice :(
Um ... if any of you guys spot her, give me a hollar. '98 Dark Green / Black Schwinn Highplains, 21 inches, 21 speed, reflective michelin tires, a Big Lewbowski spoke card and a pillage sticker on the top tube :(
The big yellow Lemond frame has to go...
really...tell me more, poopncow, tell me more...

Was pretty bad, Friday night, between 7:30 and 11:30 ... I had a cable lock but I'm defiantely springing for a U-lock now ... they took the lock too! I went out looking at bikes today - everything's out of my price range - I'm hoping for some luck for tomorrow's swap meet.
i have a schwinn MTB you can borrow until you find a deal, not all gears work but it beats walking. and it can handle curbs like a mother****er, ask LBK.

i love the cinderblocks-tossed-in-a-metal-trashcan noise it makes when it hits those curbs. that bike is full of awesome, er, features. you could probably leave THAT bike unlocked for months and no one would take it, ask spud.
i'm a hankering for a-swappin and a-meetin! i have 10 lbs. of candy for the ride up! warm up the german techno! love these roadtrips. :p

brother that sucks.
it can happen to anyone, but i'm sorry it was you
when we lose the things we value dearly,
it turns our hearts to that which matters most,
our health, our family, and friends.
our simple lives are so much like that of out bicycles' drivetrains.
success cannot be measured in the speed of travel
but whether you have the strength and confidence to keep them turning, no matter what.
so i hope that today's swap meet goes well for you,
with any luck a new bike is waiting right now for you to find it.
and just maybe, in retrospect, i hope that looking back on this misfortune,
you can see that in the tough times you had the greatest possesion of all -
friends to help you keep the gears moving.

Everyone, I gotta say, I'm glad you guys are aruond to hear some of this even if I've only known you guys for a few short weeks. It's helped out alot knowing people are around, relate, and actually care. It makes the whole situation less "I hate this city" to more like "sometimes bad things happen." I don't hold out much faith on finding my bike again, but I keep thinking about Noah's story of getting his bike back after a month. Sometimes you end up better than before!
I didn't find anything at the bike swap, and the frame didn't sell for what I wanted/needed but I did sell the seatpost ($10). Spud's rec of checking out Chain Reaction when it opens up again has my hopes up for finding a beater/commuter in reasonable shape - something that I won't feel anxious about leaving outside even with a U-lock. And there's CL, which I'll be checking all through work this week.
What a weekend ... but just wanted to say thanks to everyone :)

i'm pretty happy with what i found at the swap meet, 7 dollar brakes, cheap socks, and a floor pump. it wasnt quite what i was expecting, but oh well. sorry you couldnt sell your frame rpc. i'll bring the MTB to polo or earlier if you need it.

I don't know what I was expecting at the swap, but i can't complain! I thought it was fun and I love all my booty... purple porcupaw grips, dirt-cheap on-guard u-lock, chain tensioners, and a lovely lovely team pro brooks, for which my raleigh has been waiting, waiting, waiting.
Thanks to christoph for driving!
