Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Dude, I'm blushing... through my wind/sunburn. Did a Metric Century yesterday. The winds down here in the Houston area were gusting into the 24-30 mph range.
I can't take all the credit, my wife did give me a hand. I just hope y'all enjoy them more than I enjoyed making them. And the one with the "third eye" was a total, yet cool, accident.
third eye like the sixth chakra, or ghosting?

third eye like the sixth chakra, or ghosting?
The Ajna Chakra, or third eye. In all my reading/studying of the chakras, they were never reference by a number. So yeah, the sixth chakra.
i claim the third eye spoke card. i have a hard time remembering their names, so i stick with numbers.

god i want to come out with you guys so bad but i always check the forum after the fact. i picked up an 05 pista from city bikes, since my other bike is in richmond in my ex-boyfriend's apartment. i have no idea when i will be able to get it.
i'll try to keep on top of the forum better! or maybe someone should e-mail me or get at me on AIM.
where do your rides generally consist of going? i'm not very familiar with dc, though i've been living in silver spring for 18 years.

Rides usually start at either the park at 14th NW and K, or at homebase/warehouse (1017 7th Street NW). It's also planned to have regular sunday rides around East Potomac Park (that is where Haines Point is, where the giant is coming out of the ground (Ohio Drive SW)). You can also sign up to the dcpirates group on yahoo ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dcpirates/ ) which we sometimes use.

Rwind and RPC, thanks for driving yesterday. I really needed someone from a 12 steps to zero swap meet shopaholic program to keep things in check. RPC, have you tried CL for another bike?
Meanwhile, I need to be in points south of richmond wed and thursday, so I will have to miss polo again! I would really perfer if someone can keep the mallets after the game (Tink, can you hide them at the garage at work?). I think there are bums snooping for things to steal, because the weed wacker got jacked while I was in Hong Kong.
Please save a spokecard for this absent in mind and body pirate

Step 1: every 13th bike-related part that you don't use/use in a built within 5 days of buying it goes to the "DC Pirates Bike Part Pool"
Step 2: every 12th and 13th bike-related part that you don't use/use in a built within 5 days of buying it goes to the "DC Pirates Bike Part Pool"
...
Step 12: you get to keep only every 13th bike-related part that you don't use/use in a built within 5 days of buying it. The rest goes to the "DC Pirates Bike Part Pool"
DC Pirates (except poopncow) can take from the "DC Pirates Bike Part Pool" whatever they need. :p

just me or does that suspiciously look like sandwich meat gone bad ?
Checking CL, found one possible, a bright yellow 90's circa MTB for $85. Gotta find out if it'll take a rack. All these flatbars ... I'll go drops but finding a cheap touring road bike on the cheap is hard.

Even though I wanted to stay away from the spankin' new side, I got a tingly feeling with a 2k6 Jamis Coda ~$450 at CityBikes. mmmm ... sweet black steel (and new).
http://www.geocities.com/rpc180/06coda.jpg
michelle has a nice blue coda, maybe she'll let you try it at polo.

rpc if you're interested I have a Trek MTB (I believe it's a TREK 6000) I bought new in 99' that I can sell you pretty cheap. I rode it for about six months from 99-2000. It's been in storage ever since, so it's gonna need a good cleaning and tune up. PM me for details.
Dia, thanks but I'm trying to stay away from active suspensions ... I saw one guy riding one down the street and his front end was up and down the whole way ...
I'm just without the beater bike for now, the ner-used-at-night road bike is what I'll take to polo on wednesday ... I'll get a new U-lock tomorrow from Revolution Clarendon. Even then, I'll probably be taking my front wheel into the bars for a few weeks until I get used to it!
RPC, College Park bikes usually has a pretty good collection of used bikes. All kinds. Not junk. Check em.

Hear ye, Pirates of good social-standing: IF DECK IS SALTY THERE WILL BE LASHINGS!
oh, wait, that's not what I meant to declare. Um, for all psyched about Critical Mass, see here:
www.dcinfoshop.org/events.html
Still We Ride, a documentary about CM, is showing this weds, at bike polo time (7pm) , at 9th and P NW.
Yes, it's a conundrum. But, cannot we do both? Must we swab the deck forever, with no respite? Even pirates need a break, every now and again. Besides, we all need a little citrus.
RPC, College Park bikes usually has a pretty good collection of used bikes. All kinds. Not junk. Check em.
Dude, I'm on the website now; that's a sweet museum of vintage rides!!! I'm going to check them out tonight - do you recommend the one in College Park or the one in Mt Airy? Cause I think the website is a listing of their used bikes at all their stores ...

I vote we meet up at the corner @6:45 for the movie, then polo afterwards.
Movie location from the website:
"The Infoshop is located in the basement of the Flemming Center at 1426 9th St on the corner of P St. The nearest metro stop is Mt Vernon Sq on the yellow / green lines."

urban bike...is that a hybrid with wide city slicks on it?
I thought hybrids had pretty slick tires already ...

Yep,I'm selling the Absolute. Nice light flat bar road bike with all the proper eyelets. It's even got a really sweet paint job. But it's a 23",which is a little big for me,and prolly way too big for you.

delightfully freakish at first, but after delving further...
meh. i have a problem with a pirate affiliated in any way with the beegees. boo disco. and he endorses dave barry. boo annoying unfunny syndicated columnist.
BoO, I like Dave Barry. I bet you don't like Savage Love either. Or Steve Colbert.
And RPC, the CP location is fine. If you tell me your size, i can stop by and take pics of all the bikes your size. And get the good word on prices from friends that work there.
And Baltimore is a fine city. It is full of Punk and goodness. And the Talking Head has Naty Boh. And requires you to go up and down too many stairs to find the rest room. The land of pleasant living. And i am going to be so drunk in the morning. I mean hung over. Maybe drunk too. And my buddy Joe goes, "dude, i have to pee so bad, i have the smallest bladder." And i go, "me too man!!" And he says, "you must be a libra." Well damn if he wasn't right.
And to make this fixed related, i found out my buddy Tommy in bmore rides a fixed. The Hour by Windsor. A nice bike. We are gonna race the Shock Trauma. Go team not very smart and intoxicated.
I forgot how good the Rentals were.
[edit** and tomorrow nights low will be around -4C (24F). Now that is cold. Lets do the movie and try to keep warm. And Odwalla is good. Naked is better.
every other wednesday has been scheduled for polo, been this way for months. there are 3 or 4 new people who said they will be coming to play polo, CM was on friday if you ****ed up and didnt come too ****ing bad, mark it on your calendar for next month.

Monstertrack and 12 Monkeys are on weekends that I will be away...darn.
On a pleasant note, I may be able to hang for an hr tonight before driving out to NGNN. Tink, please call me when you leave work re: polo mallets.
btw: anyone have a spare set of drops or bullhorns? (yes, I need parts) There is a bike that is begging to be riden (for the first time in the US).
i have drops, when do you need them?
edit: dave, why didnt you photoshop some nipple piercings?

i did however photoshop this little diddy for the PS thread.. but no-one wanted to play

(*note: We may be in the SS/FG forum, but lets stop this hybrid crap. We are pirates. We ride what we want, because we want to. If that means Dina is slow and we make fun WITH him so be it, but lets stay off of the "your bike is not..." thing)
fair nuf -- i wasn't intending to get personal. just poking fun of the number of bikes he has, which i think he alluded to himself, with the smiley face and all. i'll gladly defend that point of view day or night.
for the record, though, i'll sooner listen to him tell me to shush than someone else. and i haven't heard him complain. but enough of this 3rd person sh1t. and, while i'm at it, hell with PC-ness. the interweb is awesome because it's an open forum, moderators be-damn3d.
