Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Lessons learned from the run:
1) Let the girls do the talking to the police. :D
2) Extinguish headlights when taking photos.
3) Nexus hubs rock! ;)

1) Let the girls do the talking to the police. :D
saul: "i don't mean to sound like an ass, but we do have the right to ride on the road."
cop: "you do sound like an ass."
cop: "i don't know what group you're all with..."
cop: "it's illegal to run red lights on a bike in maryland."
me: "sorry, sir. we didn't know that. we're from dc."
cop: "i'm pretty sure it's illegal there too."
me: "i'm sorry, sir. we're just confused."
classic.

I thought I heard a "I was just following the guy in front" thrown in there...
this also might have worked, given the neighborhood: "Sorry sir, we're just on the way to the [insert one: yacht, country] club."

WTF, you guys got stopped? I didn't know that. Give full details, pls. What did the cop say? Why did Sol say that you have a right to the road (that is, what was he responding to?)?
Also, Justin, hi. (I'm alphabetically and we bumped into each other over on LJ. I recognized yer icon.)

we ran a red light, and according to the cop, someone "nearly got hit." he didn't know how to deal with a large pack of swiftly moving pirates, though, so he sort of drove up and down the pack yelling at each of us in turn, until i stopped him, by stopping myself.

I heard (from someone who saw the cop and better not ran the light right in front of him), that the someone "nearly got hit." is total BS. Apparently there was NO CROSSING TRAFFIC WHATSOEVER!!!

yeah i saw the cop, and thought since we had run like two lights in front of him he was out of his jurisdiction then i hear sirens and think its an ambulance, look back: no this pig****er is yelling at all the pirates behind me, but still rolling in both lanes.
Yeah i agree with emily, maryland bicycle laws suck, so we should be very cautious there or avoid maryland streets.

i work sun and mon. perhaps we can have some kind of julie-liberation party at 530 on sun? (perhaps we can scrape together POLO MALLETS, my bretheren???)
for those of you with free time, i do think it would be good for the pirates to have a set of polo mallets. we'd need 6, for traditional 3-on-3 play. or possibly 8, for 4-on-4 or for in case we kill one by mistake.
RECIPE:
take cheapie used golf club (think garage sale, goodwill, dumpster)
remove head, using hacksaw or gnawing it off with really sharp teeth
attach an approx. 8" piece of pvc piping (4" diameter or so) where the yuppie clubhead was
note: try not to bolt the thing on, ok? that leaves you metal sticking out the bottom of the club, and may result in blood being drawn during certain incidents.

let me be perfectly honest: i play polo for the bruises and crashes, not to win.
anyway, who's making 'em?? c'mon... someone?
oh, and the good news is, there's a great polo spot on p street. though i prefer sherwood. something about the fountain in the middle for people to fall into makes it all the more fun.

listen.
I will henceforth dedicate all of my ever-so-frequent dumpster dives to the procuring of mallet making materials! My parents have a croquet set, but i think they wouldn't be pleased if i broke their precious relics of the swinging 70's.
So,, They may not be ready by sunday/monday
but they're on the way..

It got a little small, but anyway...
-two washers, one on the outside, one on the inside (mayby bent to accomodate the curvature of the pipe) (green dot)
-a bolt (blue dot)
-a peg (or however you call a "Dübel") (red dot)

Ok, what about stuff from something in the animal kingdom?
re: movies and such. What I really want to see is "red light go" , rest is back ground for whatever, during maintenance and Mallet fabrication. Midnight Polo, absolutely, and those remarks were pretty brazen when there are mallets to be swung.... savy?
will have to reconsider my plans to stay in OC sat night.... for sake of party prep

ps - do y'all think we should set up a dc pirates announcements email list? this forum is great for discussion, but it's a lot to weed through to get date, time, and location for pillages. it may be useful to be able to send just event postings direct via email.
pss-- i don't care what you think. i started the list anyway. subscribe or be out of the loop.
