Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Oops, that was suppposed to be a reply to the post about eggbeaters. Need more internet training apparently
theyre fine to walk in, theyre meant primarily for MTB shoes, though they make a road cleat which has worked out fairly well for me so far. so it depends mostly on the shoe you pick, good shoes should wear slowly and you won't be walking on the cleat, cheap shoes will probably wear faster and you'll eventually be walking on the cleat. also paying attention to how you walk can effect life-span, if youre lazy you may slide your feet and the shoe will wear faster.

eggbeaters, with the exception of quattros, are mtb pedals and have only mtb cleats. i'm happy to share my summer-o-bike-shop-workin' experience... people tell us stuff, and we know stuff, like SPD's suck, speedplay warantees suck, eggbeaters are much loved but suck for distances, frogs are awesome but are suckily delicate, the ultimate is speedplay zeros but don't even try to walk in 'em, etc.
in other news...
i'm in milwaukee till sunday. sucky.

I just got a set of Eggbeaters for my new ride...
In other mass questions on the interweb:
Does anyone have an extra cross brake lever they don't need/whould like to give me/sell to me?
Christoph, this (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/bik/144466152.html) has your name all over it.

ok Bossy McBossface. a road cleat will not turn an MTB pedal into a road pedal, fyi.
i don't know if i'll have time to bike. my mom's in the hospital, i have to take care of family stuff, and i have to work, and i only am on BF because i'm on a conference call right now. so take that.

Hey, baldylocks, did you come out to Hains on Sunday on the kogswell? if so, good to see you on bf!
I like my Look style pedals, which is why i'm still hanging onto the road system even tho they are slippery as heck to walk in. I have candys and mtb shoes ready to go, but I'm worried about the engagement being further back on the foot (yeah, I installed the cleat all the way forward)... this adding all the more to my toeverlap, which is already huge.
Chimbly, hang in there. I hope your mom is ok.

So where were all the Pirates last night? First time we've totally cancelled polo in a long time. Me and pnc showed, waited for awhile, saw Dsusan and his wife, then went for Chinese and checked out his blinging new machine. Where was everybody else?

Yup that's just after me and me Annie left. We got there around 7:15/7:20 after going to dinner. I wanted to see if anyone wanted to come pick up the polo stuff at my place, and Dyna & Poop were the only ones there. We talked for a couple, and since nobody else showed they were planning on leaving.

I want every Pirate to notice that according to this analogy we are on the top of the bicycle gang ladder. I can think of only a few other times in my life when I have felt as complimented as I do right now. <sniffle> <choke back tears of joy> <sniffle>

Adams Morgan and drinking?
Gonna toss this out there ... anyone got the following:
1) Quill-stem, ~100mm variety (or however they measure quill-stems)?
2) 27" rear wheel, mine got stepped on from the side and a truing got it so-so alright ... but if anyone's got a old one they're not using / want to get rid of...
3) A lock I could borrow until Kryptonite sends me a replacement?
Willing to trade small change or a few cans of sparks or other assorted alcomahol...

All the gear deprived:
Cross lever, GOT one extra -
Krypto lock, have NYC not being used - very barrowable - NOT DELIVERABLE!
100mm quill, but comes with 37 cm drop bar, 105 levers and professionally wrapped.
in return for items 1 and 3, donations towards a 40 or 42 cm Nitto road drop or burritos are welcomed. (btw: going dry for a few months)
Had some wind and fun at the smithsonian kite festival today. Caught Rincewind out there slumming too.
See you all in the morning over at hains pt. I'll be very well geared.

Krypto lock is fine enough ... unfortunately, can't use quill & 105 levers ... downtube shifters on my bike now ... and I don't want to ruin a professionally wrapped bar :( PNC, I pick up the lock tomorrow night maybe?

Yarr and salutations to awwwllllll.
I work at the Takoma farmers market 10-2 every single sunday. means I am out for the haines ride. However, I sell very delicious CHEESE. Get it, Get it? Cheese!!!!!!
How about a ride up into the wilderness of upper northeast DC instead.
Get yummy, healthy food, check out the brand new bike shop, the thrift shops and then lunch beneath the cannon in Fort Stevens. Oh, one of the shops is going out of business so they are cuttin prices..lots.

beach drive to silver spring, then across to takoma...more details when I get a map.

BTW, lets make a point to ALL come out for this months critical mass.
We can do a safety check and repairs session beforehand, with free flat fix.
I will draw up an actual plan and will link with others to promote it.
Call friends, shine up your bikes, get your costumes ready, call your cute friends, get your penny farthing out and make a circus out of the biggest regular ride in DC.
Chelsea...
What about those flags?
Additionally, who still needs stuff?
I always have a lot in reserve and chain reaction will be opening in May (grumble).
RCP, I can wrap the bars if you want those cross levers?
Cow. More power to you.
It was interesting but good.
What is happening with shirts?
I am teaching a regular class thursday night at 630 at citybikes on tire repair and whatever else.
If you need to know more about your bike, come on by.

Was wondering this Sunday as we were rounding Hains Pt if it would be of interest to ride to different places from Hains once in a while (LBK your ride, your call :) just a suggestion but cheese, pies and points around the compass do become tempting.

If not I can pick up some time.
Ooooh, I know what you mean. Yeah!!!! *****in!!!
Polyester pirates!!!
I have tools a stand and still have some park manuals left over from my students, would anyone like to learn more skills, get some repairs done, etc? I would be happy to teach for free and then we could do some fundraising classes later in the year.
Does anyone have ideas for an all ages venue?
Chief ikes has offered to host a class on a weekday night.
On another note,
I made some nickers out of dickies and reflecto tape.
They work great, anyone want to have some made, help me make some? Have a sewing machine?
Get patches made?
Etc?

There already is a ride planned for this Sunday. Hills of YARRlington.
My personal preference is getting miles in at Hains on Sunday. It's pretty much my dedicated day for getting in high mileage during daylight each week. Other people are free to do/plan whatever. I don't need to make a call here.

Hey, if most folks (who work in the OD and live north) finish at around the same time and many are going the same way, why not create an informal rally point and time in case company is worth a little waitng or a little lateral travel?
who is the screen printer?
