2 hours till rum, ahoy!

some light reading on the subject, for those of you who like to do your homework, from your favorite source of history and mine, "The Modern Drunkard"

Would anyone who's attending tonight happen to know how to set a front deraileur? Apparently I'm not smart enough to do so, and have been commuting with about 5 gears on a triple for a week.

Thanks,
Pat

the results.
14 riders, more or less, pillaged rum from 4 bars.
two riders were involved in two crashes over the course of two miles and spent 30 minutes giggling in the first aid aisle of CVS. no bicycles were injured. blood was shed, but just enough to cause giggling.
cheese fries were consumed.
piracy was celebrated.
and to all a good night.

oh, and superthanks to the friendly folks of the Washington International Youth Hostel. Located at 11th and K, it's the perfect cheap place to stay when nobody will let you stay on their couch. They hooked up a pirate with a gauze pad and some scotch tape when it seemed all hope was dashed. Thanks, hostellers!

The Modern Drunkard gave me an idea which requires that I ask a very simple question...

Is this

Diabutsusan,

Don't worry, the second half (the part I attended) was fun but ended with bad rum and then drunken Harper screaming outside of fox and hounds.
Kim says sorry.

BTW, we have a local bag maker and may have another.

Anyone interested in Sunday Afternoon rides?

I finish around 3.

BTW, I am clearing out my stash.

I have 0ne project bike schwinn, lotsa parts (bars, some wheels, etc). um a columbus hat?

Anyone wanna help paint chain reaction and meet Jimmy, the best mechanic in DC?

Anyone interested in Sunday Afternoon rides?

Red,
The pirates have every-sunday rides that start at Haines Point. Last week it went a couple laps around haines, some cheese, more laps, then up to capitol hill, around the city, etc.

RedDeMartini
04-12-06, 02:09 PM
I know, But the cheese rides end before I am free at three o'clock.

Peter and I went to for a few laps and then down to gravelly point last sunday, really nice weather. There were even some blossoms left near the end of the loop.

Thus...Sunday afternoon rides (late).

Or, if you are riding around the city, come up to Takoma park between 10 and 2 and get delicious Organic cheese, yoghurt, meat veggies, mushrooms, eggs, bread, etc.

Also, the worlds hottest pepper jack.

Wow, an ENRON jersey!

Yup. From the eBay listing:
"Have the ride of your life in a brand-new Sugoi cycling jersey designed for the 2001 Enron team riding in the MS 150 from Houston to Austin, Texas. Jeff Skilling, former CEO of Enron, was the lead rider and wore a jersey just like this!"

So I guess they weren't all bad.

BTW,gonna be stuck at work late. No Cardoza for me tonight. :(

I am putting a fine 105 brake on my cycle.
I need a cheater brake/cyclo lever/bmx lever if anyone has any for sale. Otherwise, i am going to tie the cable to the bars and just pull on it.

Hey, I was gonna come out to Cardozo tonight, but nobody posted a meet up spot. Then I decided to just meet everyone there, until I remembered this article I read in the DC CIty Paper:

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/districtline/2006/rocks0407.html

If I were riding with the group I wouldn't mind as much, but I ain't taking my chances alone.

So, no Cardozo for me tonight.

now, give up hope of ever having a break, plan on spending $10 a day on food and coffee, and be prepared to never have clean hands again.

Congratulations Daibatsusan,
I didn't even know you were applying. I will send my recommendations over to Alex.
I was there for two years and though it is crazy in the summer it is also a lot of fun.
Full time is a whole different world.
Just look forward to Toledo Sunday Afternoons, Chaos thursday nights, always offer to go for food. Coffee is always good at ten and at four. Go to Tryst but make sure they know you are citybikes. You will get the real service. Get two packs of Schaeffer from North Sea on Thursday around six. Work on your Spanish. Make friends with Jose and the Arrevelo Brothers.
Euan and Alex are always stressed. Bring Music.
Learn to handle crazy people.
Mark likes raw sugar packets from the coffee shops, Paul likes kabob salads from the Astor. So's your mom is the best deli in DC.
Ep is now the same as former employee discount, so be creative in shopping. One of us usually has the item.
Drink lots of water.
Smile and nod. The crazy people will eventually leave and everyone can laugh about it later.
Get to know the friends of the shop.
Drink beer.
Mr. Chens is not very good anymore. North sea is inexplicably better. Martin will argue this.
When you stack, do it fast.
Go to the pharmacy bar after work, this is your new home.
Monday morning sucks, Thursday night is a delight.
Kevin Costello, Shawn Smith and Sol, do not work there. But they may as well.
Watch Euan's face when you meet someone new, it is a great indicator of whether that person is a friend or a freak. He knows who everyone is.
Check I Saw You in CL and citypaper, you will be in there.
The airhose is outside.
Offer to sweep.
Bring music. Make sure music is always playing, when it stops everyone starts to freak out a little bit.
Have fun, see you thursday.

you sure that you want to publically post all that, Red? I'd delete at least half. this is the interweb, and that's all public. more appropriate for a pm.

besides, part of it is wrong, like for example, Shawn now manages the chevy chase store...

RedDeMartini
04-13-06, 09:37 AM
Is anyone interested in later sunday rides? If they are...call me, tink, pcow, chimbley all have my number.

he did when he called me last saturday.

and you have real people's real names with criticism of them attached to it. posted for the public to see. whether or not they have access to the interweb, someone will end up seeing it and directing them to it. just food for thought.

RedDeMartini

Shawn doesn't work there (AM)
Shawn works at chevy chase, but that is like working at a different store. Whereas he is Shawn, so it is like he is a permanent de facto employee. When he doesn't work there he is often behind the counter and when he does work there he is behind the counter. Other folks from CC don't go behid the counter at AM, and vice versa.
