Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

one more thing - that yahoo group is an opt-in. make sure you receive and reply to the email that asks if you really want to join (LBK, dynarider - this is you guys)
also, make sure you set your spam filter to accept email from dcpirates@groups.yahoo.com
if you didn't get a reminder email for today's event, you're not on the list yet.

:p
Its amazing that no one endo'ed into the fountain! Or maybe Chimbly did and we just didn't see it.
What an initiation for L, first the stairs, then the endo against (but not into) the fountain and then deciding to out run the pack on the way back! Was it L or EmmW that commented on the literary significance of the night?

That was me. Sometimes I do that.
(The literary significance meaning that getting together with some friends and eating food and drinking quality malt beverages and putting together mallets from random stuff and then playing drunken bike polo is the kind of stuff that people write novels about, and there we were, doing it. And that's pretty ****ing cool, being young and reckless and wild and enjoying everything.)

The Frederick Burrito Bandit's are issuing a challenge to the DC Pirates. you choose the events, we choose the location.
We will lose, but we'll be better fed.
rockville is kind of in between DC and Frederick...

i know i'm late on this. sorry, had to work yesterday.
y'all, i had a lovely time on Sunday. I don't remember winners or losers or even what the hell happened to those chain reaction kids, but i do know it was somewhat magical. i'm still finding bruises in strange places (on my upper back?) but i had a mad good time. bliss.
so... i proposed a halloween idea above... lemme know what you think, or plan something else, i don't care.

10-11-05, 10:06 AM
I like the Halloween idea of yours....
I liked your idea chimbly, but i'm not sure i can make it, the rest of october i'm pretty busy with work, maybe i can meet up towards the end of a pillage, or midway if it passes Georgetown/Arlington.
Tink suggested we try bike polo next time on little 16" kids bikes (from chain reaction), i think training wheel(s) would be fun/useful too on bikes that small.
oh and if anyone talks to network1 regularly, chimbly?, let us know how he is or if he needs anything.
chimblysweep
10-11-05, 10:56 AM
if by "network1" you mean Ben, who never comes to the forum...
he got in an accident on the way to the polo field. his glasses sliced open his face, sending him in a cab to GW hospital for 8 stitches. he's doing ok, but could use a little cheering up. perhaps a mid-week drinking meetup?
yeah i saw him afterwards, but was curious how his recovery is going. yeah mid-week could be good.

yes yes three cheers for Rincewind.
our newly appointed "chief engineer forever"
his design proved more than adaquate for the evening (and likely another!)
I really want to play again sometime soon.
Next Saturday (22nd) ??

Game? Sure, anytime !
There is about 5 ft of PVC material (enough for 8 mallets!) left. I was intending to make a Burrito launcher out of it to use on the Frederick crowd.

Go ahead, launch burrito's at us, WE'LL EAT THEM!!!! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA VICTORY WILL BE OURS!!!!
I had a thought of a bike Tug-Of-War...... And how many beers you can chug while one hand track standing... but as I said the games are your call, but please remember we are at most 6 strong.
polo is three per side, so you would have a full replacement after we shame the first string to death in the first game :p many of us ride geared too so trackstand chugging would probably be too easy for you.

"you will lose, but will be well feed" INDEED!
and since you started to think about games, we've been thinking about the look on people's faces if we were to decend on the "RIO" off 270 :D
EmmW would love this!

haha, I think this should be billed as "The Battle Of 270" The burrito bandits are stoked, I started informing them tonight. we may have a mountain bike or two in our mists, maybe something for them?
figure out some dates and I'll see what my lads think.

thanks for the hot picture of me on my ass, tink. thanks alot. too bad these photos still don't explain the four bruises on my left shoulder blade... but we'll take these as the explaination for the legs-covered-in-bruises.
c'mon pirates, practise makes perfect! when's the next match? can we do like 9pm thursdays or something?

Indeed, polo was much fun. Big props to Poopn for the food and hospitality. :) (BTW,did you pass me going up Mass Ave when you were taking the girls home? Thought that looked like your rig with a bike on the back.)
Big up to Chimbly, for playing on a fixie and giving the boys what for. ;)
Some highlights: L nimbly avoiding a faceplant when bumping into the fountain.
EM nimbly avoiding a faceplant while trying to coast on her Pista. :p
Tink and Spud's after collision ballet.
Suggestion for next time: we need to make the ball more visible. I've got a can of florescent orange spray paint and a roll of glow-in-the-dark tape;whichever y'all think would work best. The mallets were spot-on;German engineering at it's best.
Oh,and I wasn't a bit sore in the am. Guess that's cause I didn't fall down. :D
