jonny5, it's polo night! 7pm, 14 & K, you know the drill.

Twas over at Farragut this afternoon, so I decided to scout out the "Sherwood" polo grounds. Saw nuthin at 14 & K that looks like a park or parking lot or anything suitable for a polo grounds. Only Sherwood in the phone book, is a Sherwood Rec Center in NE.

sherwood is what we call Lincoln Square. It's the park between 13&14 and I&K. and there may be a fountain in the middle, but we consider it quite "suitable"!

c'mon out!

ps - Pirates, 1 week till scavenging stupidity. Better stare at a map some.

Actually, it's Franklin Park, but you can call it "Lincoln Square" if you want. :)

Hey, that's why you can call it what you want... I did check, though, because I thought it was Franklin Square, too, but it is actually Franklin Park (although it is squarish, so, er, tomayto-tomahto, I guess...).

The National Park Service officially lists its name as Franklin Square:
http://www.cr.nps.gov/nr/travel/wash/dc29.htm

Franklin "Square" is rectangular.

Lincoln Square is a former name for the current Lincoln Park, site of the Emancipation Memorial, located on Capitol from 11th to 13th.

Thanks EBK, BLocks, Rwind & mtbchica for joking with me and providing sanity advice on what to do after being slow motion T-boned. May be it was overly dramatic to have the fire dept and the police on such minor incident, but getting the police report was a good thing. Now to City Bikes for a damage estimate.

What happened?

poopncow
04-23-06, 09:01 PM
What happened: It was really nothing, nothing at all, except that there was a car involve, heck, we had seen worst between pirates

Got in a warm up lap before meeting up with LBK and the rest.

I was riding outboard on the causway (re-versed direction) and saw LBK at the corner of the cause way and the parking lot. So I swung into the ped cross walk, rolling really slow because there were 2 cars at teh stop sign. The first one went , so I started to cross, the second car had the same idea and T-boned me. All was in really slow mo, but since I was clipped in, the bike tumbled with me. As I was lying in the intersection, clipped to the bike, I was glad that there wasn't another car to run me over.

hardly a scrape on me, but the bars got bent and the rear wheel needed a truing. All in all, everything was fine, the guy's insurance left me a voice mail. I think we can laught this one off. :)

Thanks for all the VM and PM of concern and good cheer! :)

After the Hains debacle and pirates scattered to the wind to beat the storm that was brewing, Rince and I saw a guy coming down the sidewalk on that model, complete with golf clubs, and TALKING ON HIS CELL PHONE. It was... beyond the words we have in this language to accurately describe such a tool. shudder.

When LBK and I left the accident scene on Sunday a guy on a segway (I think it was their large model with the "offroad" tires, or should I just say their "SUV model") came the other way on the sidewalk. Besides the luggage rack, he had a big golf bag with clubs attached to the segay. And he was on the phone!!!

PNC if its not raining is your ride going to be hill crazy? I just need to know for the knee.

poopncow
04-24-06, 10:18 PM
There will be a few sprinter /short hills, moderate gradient.
The advantage of riding the triangle clockwise is that you climb very very very slowly. then bomb downhill like mad into geotown. Riding it anti-clockwise is the hilly killer.

Riding is about fun, and 20 miles wet in the dark is not fun, so if it sucks, rain date will be Friday (barring scheduling conflicts).

Spring's bringing out everyone! I'm all set for this Arlington Triangle of Death deally! Off topic, slightly - Sighted in DC this morning:

1) Bright pink fixie with no markings, a flatbar, and I think a Fiz'ik pave saddle? Ulocked outside of Bank of America on Vermont Ave? Anyones? It looked great - all minimalistic!
2) A pink bianchi w/ gears less than half a block further down. I think I saw the rider going into the building, messenger-like with a skull and crossbones in pink in a plastic thing on one of the straps. Anyone we know?

chimblysweep
04-25-06, 12:07 PM
i know of two pink fixed riders... one's a powdercoated steamroller, very small frame, ridden by the best knitter in town. the other is a nyc bikes frame, bigger, ridden by the nicest messenger/photographer on earth.

Funny, when I first learned of a fixed gear community I thought of it as sort of small.

Now it seems like I see a few fixies every time I leave the apt. and they're never the same ones. And I don't know who any of them are.

This might change when I start work at the bike shop.

not so fast. it SEEMS easy, until Geico's like, hey, we don't want to reimburse you for this or that. You gotta get the driver to agree to pay for the bike shop work, and then have Geico reimburse him/her.

(This same thing, the slow run-over, happened to me once in Boston. I remember how funny it was to be clipped in to the pedals and slowly falling over while baning on the hood and screaming, hey, don't run me over!)

Weird thing I've been noticing lately:tiny bars. I've seen 3 or 4 bikes in the past 2 weeks with bars that were like 12" wide. And none of them had grips. Okay,I can see how they'd help when threading through traffic, but you've got zero leverage for turning.
