Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You realise that once we hit Wisc,it's just a straight line,up a steep hill,on a busy road?

If I may make a humble suggestion;I'd start it earlier, then run from Tenley to the CCT,run that to Big Planet in Bethesda, and then get everyone back to Adams Morgan in time for cheap beers at Asylum. Either that,or run it off Wisc through some of the hilly sideroads, swinging back to Wisc to stop at a couple bars.

Well, I can't really start it any earlier unless there is a giant public outcry to do so. Also, I like keeping it a simple straight line. However, I wouldn't object to looping through some side streets between Big Planet DC and Big Monkey since they are in reality two or three blocks apart. Oh, and I was actually planning on ending at Lucky Bar to watch the DC United vs. Colorado Rapids game. But I ain't gonna stop anyone from going to Asylum. I guess the best way to handle this is to take a concensus of whoever shows up on Saturday, it might just be me and you, Dyna.

P.S. It occurs to me that the "Pillage" title might be a misnomer in this case. I would consider it more of a "Plunder" than a "Pillage", perhaps even a "Raid".

Well, polo was a wash. Me,Spud, and RPC. RPC went home to do laun-dread while Spud and I wound up hanging at Booger's for awhile before escorting Chimbly home from Union Station.

I'm trying to decide what was the funniest image from last night:
1) Tink as an upstanding member of society(dude, you're just a haircut away from being a sariman :p )
2) Chimbly as a commuter(that wasn't safe...but it was hawt! :D )
3) transit cops on Segways(I am so not starting trouble down at Union Station  )

so, again i ask, o pirates...
I'm gonna rent a car to go to jumpinships.
it's in columbus on 5/13
the schedule goes like this:
5/12: leave ~6pm . 8 hour drive.
5/13: depart after race. (or spend another night?) 8 hour drive.

i'm a fantastic through-the-night driver but would appreciate a buddy or two. if nobody else wants to go, i'll prolly skip it.

Minimum of 6 for polo(3 on a side).

The Segway troopers were inside, right at the gates. In fact,I'm sure that the one came through the door that led down to the train platform.

Imma try an make CM tonight. If I slick out a couple min early I should be able to make it. Any Cinco de Mayo(sp?) activities planned for afterwards?

Also going to try to make CM tonight, need to get new lock nuts, cracked mine on both sides of my rear hub and its all being held together with duck tape, hmmm! Maybe this will teach me not to overtighten but I doubt it. Would like to do something cinco de mayoish, but its only going to be a drink or two, leaving for a 2 day tournament in Baltimore, tomorrow at 9:30am.

i forgot to mention last night that a good sturdy chain tensioner can give you one less thing to worry about when tightening your track nuts. i'd never tell you to leave them looser, but it might prevent the need for excessive overtightening. and, of course, making sure the locknuts themselves are tightly screwed on is never a bad idea.

just in case you don't find any locally, here's the part you need:

yeah, $4.95 plus shipping for a pair is highway robbery, but i haven't ever seen them cheaper. cheers.

Didnt realise there were other United fans here. Im a member of both Barra Brava and screaming Eagles. I dont post over here, but after seeing that thought id drop in and say hey. Anytime anyone here wants to catch a United match ( home or away , though im at RFK for EVERY home match) lemme know. Im usually at one of the "soccer friendly" pubs in the area dowing a few brews while taking in the match. ( noooo im not known for driking at all! lol! )

Too bad United looked crap on Saturday.

I missed the game on Saturday... it didn't sound good.

Cool that there are other United fans here. I have a season ticket on the quiet side for home games. For away games, I'll usually head to Lucky Bar since it's close to home.

To make this bike-related, sometimes I ride to RFK (on my single speed, no less...) to see DCU. :)

my thoughts...
(i'm only here for like 2 1/2 more weeks.)
- I'd like to do a Recruitment Ride. the idea: everyone bring a fist full of flyers, your design, that recruits pirates for the margarita relay. we ride, drink, and leave flyers on every bike we see.
- then, Margarita Relay like a few days later.
i.e. Recruitment Ride 5/9 and Margarita Relay 5/11 or something like that??

That's right...I'm qouting myself...moving on

I think I need to gauge some interest in this ride idea I had so excuse me while I drop some elaboration:

DC Street Pirates
Soccer Pitch Pilage
1:00 pm Saturday June 3, 2006
Featuring stops at:

Summers (Courthouse)
Lucky Bar (Dupont Circle)
The Pour House (Capitol Hill)
The Lot 8 Tailgates (RFK Stadium)

Stay for the game and stand with La Barra Brava (http://www.barra-brava.com/)and The Screaming Eagles (http://www.screaming-eagles.com)
and watch DC United dismantle the Columbus Crew.

What I need to know is A) Is that date good for everyone B) How many people are down for this and C) How many people, besides Josh, Trek, and myself actually want to see the game itself

EDIT 12:04 PM: PM me with your answers since there are more eminant rides.

we'll do Cardozo Track Hot Nights once a month, unless people really want to do them more, a lot of you have expressed how boring it is or dont even show up; its probably more fun when there are a lot of people like when the Richmond kids and others came to visit.

more miles and pillaging, got any ideas? speak up and plan some rides; and show up to your planned rides.

PIRATES!
Let's get our ****ing **** together.
We're in a sad, sad state.

REALLY ****ing SAD!

I hereby summon my powers as Lt-fr-Lf and decree:
THURSDAY - 7pm - sherwood - Rummy Recruity Ridey. Design your own flyers and bring at least 50 to recruit people for the Margarita Relay. Your flyer should include date, time, location, and event. Remember, with recruitment flyers, what you make is what you get. Write for your audience, got it?
SUNDAY - 11am laps n' cheese as usual! c'mon out and get yer miles on.
TUESDAY MAY 16 - 7pm - sherwood - THE SECOND ANNUAL TRI STATE MARGARITA RELAY (which actually isn't a relay at all, and only includes two states + DC, but whatever.) Expect ~30 miles, two bridge crossings, bring blinkeys, etc. The ride goes bethesda -> DC -> clarendon. remember?

and hey, i know we don't have rules, so let's call these "how to be a good pirate and not a ******"
- plan rides people.
- show up to rides you plan.
- recruit, recruit, recruit. this means ANY rider you meet anywhere is fair game!
