great old-timey 3 speed bikes that totally rocked during the 50's

i think he was refering to your trying to make the basso a 3 speed.
if you did, i imagine you would opt for an internal hub like this one

http://www.bicycleworkshop.co.uk/smsimg/8/50aw.jpg

the problem is, I imagine you're going to run into spacing issues with the rear dropouts.
meh.. what do I know.. ask ze german,
if anyone could make it work, it's my bet that he could.

nice bike btw.
push that curvy hotness all over RV

i love the sprung saddle on that thing. yeah, what tink said. man, i need to use more image tags.

that'd be for making it a two speed fixed gear, and is pretty complicated i think. sheldon has an article on it here:

http://sheldonbrown.com/awfixed.html

i doubt it's worth trying, i'm just a sucker for strange bike setups. either way, enjoy!

Steel frames don't have spacing issues. Besides most internal gear hubs are around 120mm OLD anyways. ;)

btw: I believe that SA 3 spd hubs are 110! You have not lived until you open one of those sugars apart and see all the paws, springs, keys and gears.

It's THE SECOND ANNUAL TRI STATE MARGARITA RELAYthat is next week.

And there might be some models that are 110mm O.L.D., but most are somewhere between 115mm and 119.5mm. (http://www.sturmey-archer.com)

TONIGHT.
if it's raining, meetup at home base (Warehouse, on 9th St) instead. If it's clear, meetup at sherwood.

If it's nasty, we'll drink more and ride less. If it's nice out, we'll ride more and drink a tad less.

BE THERE. 7pm, rain or shine!

Sorry folks,no recruiting for me tonight. If I'm lucky,I'll get out of here by 9. Today has not been a fun day. :(

BTW,has anyone PM'd/e-mailed/called the lost Pirates(EmMildew,Justin,Waitforme, etc) to see if they can make the TSMR?

spud
05-11-06, 05:04 PM
itd be cool to see them, but i think they are too busy; otherwise they would be looking/posting here themselves, right?

Hi Pirates,

I was sent here from a post I put up about polo. I moved to the Baltimore area recently from Milwaukee. I used to play some pick-up polo games there.

By what set of rules do you play, and when, and is it pick-up style or do you have teams all picked out official like???

We basically had no rules other than no weapons (except the mallets of course), and we only had a few get knocked unconcious, and only one guy had his hand skewered.

Ahhhh I miss it.

I'm old now, wife, kid, cat, house, (payments), but I'd like to get into a game or two if I can find time.

05-12-06, 08:26 AM
i think the baltimore folks have their own games going on. i know there was actually an article in the baltimore sun (or was it the post?) about a respectable group of 30-somethings that play polo on grass in bmore...

ours is on pavement, the rules are no footdown and no high-sticking, and we play every other Wed.

Hey, look.

It's sort of that I'm really busy, and sort of that it's such a huge ****ing pain in my ass to get into the city with my bike. I mean, for me to come from my house even on a weekend is over two hours round trip on the Metro. That sort of blows.

So, yeah. I'm going to try to come Tuesday night. I'm looking to meet y'all in Bethesda around 8ish and I have Chimbley's cell # and will call if I am late or you guys are or whatever.

Also, I am moving in July, and one of the non-negotiable things I'm looking for is riding distance to the city, so there you go. Hopefully I will be able to be more around.

Ha-ha! Got one to come out from hiding. :p

Question: would it be good/bad idea to print a couple of dp's fliers and post them at local bike shops?

Oh,and however crappy it was last night, riding in the cold and rain,it was like 10x more fun than I was having at work.

it would be an excellent idea. as well as sticking them into the spokes of bikes that are locked outside.

i have to work tomorrow otherwise i'd go and look for 48 dollar pedals.

there was some talk of a w&od extravaganza tomorrow sometime. i get off work around 2 i think and if its not raining or looking like rain i'm going to hit the trail and get some more miles in.

full week ahead: the Tri-State Margarita Bike Relay tuesday, Polo wednesday, Bike-To-Work-Day and Nationals Pillage friday.

the shirts are ordered and being screened, 8 bucks each and i hope to have them for the baseball pillage.

and dont forget we have a hat trick of alleycats (all nearby) coming up at the end of the month.

baldylocks
05-12-06, 08:02 PM
They came in the mail today and they were in fact 48 bucks. And they got here in a day(!?) Also they were made of solid gold and pollished with children's tears.

Where'd you go? W&OD? Just thiink of all the fun you missed. You could've gone to Silver Spring and seen 7 bikes at the bike swap... But I did finally get a front brake.

spud
05-13-06, 06:39 PM
only seven? anything cool there, besides a front brake?

baldylocks
05-13-06, 06:46 PM
Not really, there was some ok stuff and a lot of junk. I was looking for stuff for Re so I was being picky, but not a lot of people or bikes. Bummer. And the brake actually came from a store. It was 48 dollars.

Thanks for the reply to my polo question. I'll search the baltimore paper sites. In case I don't have luck, do you have any clue where/when the baltimore folk play? It will be closer to home than DC, not that DC is that far, but with gas prices these days, being what they are, and it would probably be more than I could take to bike 40 miles from work, then play polo, then ride back home 55 miles.
