Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It was cool hanging with you guys last night... Any one that wants to build a stupid tall bike should hit me up. Message me here and I'll give you my real Email...I'm paranoid about posting it in forums. Who is Red Demartini? He was talking smack about my welding, and saying that I was wasteful for taking bikes out of the trash and putting them back on the street.

I'll second Dirty: The Pirates are an amazing group of people, and I'll miss the regular time with our great Sea Mistress Chimbly.
Good luck to you in Chicago, and may the Windy City give you tailwinds.

See you on the 12th!

I think I might have seen you riding a tall bike towards Union Station two weekends ago. Is that possible? That was the first time a saw a real tall bike in action. AWESOME!

that wasn't me. I've heard of a tall bike rider that lives on capitol hill. I can mostly be spied riding around Columbia Heights, U St. and Adams Morgan...

Cool.

Spud I am always at City Bikes now (except on Sun.). I'm usually not settled in at home until around 8:00'ish.

So if you want to bring my shirts by the bike shop, cool. Or if you want to come out to dinner with me and Annie some night, even better.

You know my # and where I live.

Well the full report is Metro has started a pilot program testing new parking spots at select stations with one or two spots where shrubbery used to be. Metro officials said that they never liked the bushes and neither did its patrons so theyre being converted into parking spots at a premium price: "for the metropolitian in a hurry." Metro maintenance crews are too busy ****ing up routes on the orange and red lines to remove the bushes, so patrons are encouraged to just drive onto the plants carefully.

In other news, undercover police caused an accident on Sixth at Q st NW street during a routine shakedown last night. Firefighters and EMTs were dispatched after a taxi hit a pedestrian, the taxi driver was given a very stern warning police spokesman said.

baldylocks
05-27-06, 10:42 AM
wow, did you re-investigate the accident or is this speculation? Alls I know is the lights looked pretty om the wall in my house. Oh, and that jeep was still in the bushes this morning!

spud
05-27-06, 10:47 AM
i rode by it one more time, definitely a cab involved, not sure what happened but those undercover cops took off as soon as they got done with their arrest/harassment and left it to uniformed and EMTs to clear up the accident, i mean they pretty much avoided even looking in the direction of the accident.

no clue about the jeep in the bushes, there was an undercover car heading away from it as i was headed back to Georgetown, didnt seem to be too concerned about anything.

BROWN HORNETS!!!!! there is another drinking bicycling crowd in DC! Is there going to be a fight for street domination? Or do we join forces to destroy the Segway and WAKA (Kickball) crowd?

Wish I could do the century (fixed!), but this stupid apartment move is requiring way more of my time. Don't forget to take pictures. We'll do the next one fixed...and blindfolded!
Or on pogosticks.

aye, turns out i did about 90 miles fixed yesterday on:
1 cliffbar, 1 grilled cheese, some fries, 1 payday, bag of M&Ms, 32oz gatorade, 40oz water, 16oz soda. not a very good diet for much of anything actually.

i think i'm going to sit the century out, may join you for a few miles though.

so, obviously i didn't make it today. riding with you all is one of my favorite things to do, so know that i wouldn't have bailed if i weren't in a real bad way right now. but excuses are lame.

i feel a little bad that i couldn't make it, and that some of you were riding fixed because you thought i would be. i feel REALLY bad that i didn't make more of an effort to get in touch before i passed out last night. again, excuses are lame, but i did make an attempt, albeit a half ass one.

but what would really disappoint me, is if i don't catch a world of **** for all this. do your worst, i can take it.

dirtyphotons

we were in the right place. they just bailed before we got there. there were a lot of people at the finish who had the same problem, i don't think the cp staff knew that there were 4 different manifests. oh well, good times, till that night anyway....

I'll say it again.
Duuuuuuuuude. I have never been so happy to be CLEAN and HOME. I was wearing at least 10 pounds of dead bug carcasses.

Out the door this morning at 9:45. In the door at 9:05 pm. The adventure featured: one flat, one unspun Italian bottom bracket (thanks Bicycle Outfitters in Leesburg! Love the 13 year-old sales staff...seriously, more courteous than any LBS I've ever been in. Would you like a kickstand with that?), a chirping chain, the mother of all quesadillas, "was this my bike?" hybrid shenanigans, some Dairy Queen gdammit!, and a whole lot of pedaling. I believe the name of this comedy of errors was the "Fixed (I hate you guys) Century." Congratulations to Poop, Baldy, Spud, and ME! Hope you all got home safe and sound. We rock! Sorry you couldn't make it, Dirtyphotons. We almost believe your excuses. You set us up!!! I am going to go pass out now.

I want to thank my mom and dad (who are visiting DC) and had a hot meal waiting
I want to thank WASA for the water that rushes from my shower head
I want to thank TEAM DFL for the inspiration (and comraderogatory that made no room for excuses)
I want to thank my drive train for despite the error of my ways and its own Nippon-Italiano quirkiness for not exploding and leaving my asterick to rot on the WOD
I want to thank Bicycle Outfitters in Leesburg for not closing at 5 mins to 6 on a holiday (unlike a certain pho resturant)
I want to thank Baldylocks for keeping me alive and establishing "bail on the METRO and we'll raz yo aS$" precedent.
And last and lease Dirtyphoton for reasons too obvious for words.
