Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Announcing the first ever
Salty Dog Matinee Pillage!
July 9, after laps and cheese, we'll grab some beer and Sparks, and head to a theater to check in on our sea-borne brethren, cheering as they pillage the Spanish Main in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/piratesofthecaribbeandeadmanschest/).
We'll make the theater patrons cry as we pillage and plunder and pilfer our bloody black guts out.
Time and theater TBA.

Hey, y'all sound like fun. Actually, you sound a lot like Faster Mustache (http://fastermustache.org), which I think is pretty awesome. Anyway, I'm a DC expat and I'm planning a trip back to the DC/Baltimore area in mid July and I want to ride with some cool people in between attending weddings and seeing old friends and stuff. I'm thinking of making a day of riding into town on the Rock Creek Trail, catching some museums, scoping out the Chain Reaction bike shop and hitting up the wed night time trials/barbecue before metroing it back out to the suburban hell of my youth. Any other suggestions of cool bike stuff to do while in town? Sadly, I didn't get into biking until I moved to Atlanta so I really don't know what's around.

When you know when your going to be in town hit us up. We plan rides about a week in-advance, sometime less. Just ride around town, its the best way to see things.

There is a group of cycling kids (potential pirates?) from CM who plan on doing a cookout and then riding over to the DC premeire of B.I.K.E. at Silverdocs Film Festival at AFI this saturday night. in case you havent looked it up its a film about the Black Label Bicycle Gang in NYC. I say we pillage that **** and show them how be pirates.
DC Pirates' The Longest Pillage take the day off this summer solstice and pillage all day and night. 6/21 details to come....

Hurray, I've just caused enough trouble at work so that I may end up going to San Diego A LOT!!!! hopefully, there is a short flight to MnG.
Meanwhile B'Locks is holding my roadie hostage after another adventure in Chi-land and a century and a half of soaking in Iowa. You better treat her right!

WHO HAS MY "2 SECONDS" MOVIE?
It was due back a week ago, I left it at poop's and now I am ****ed...
Spud, what is CM?

Just so you don't get taken in by the p. diddy style stealth marketing that is going on around the B.I.K.E. movie at Silver docs. Here is the history of the first BLBC before the NYC chapter became "content" for all of the madison avenue interns in brooklyn.

One of the quirks about NYC is that very little is original there. NYC is to promotion what detroit is to cars and ironically, the midwest is the origin of much of what NYC claims. Tall bikes, bike jousting and freak bikes are all midwestern traditions. We ought to recognize this because otherwise we are denying the value of those who don't live in the big cities. And that is most of us...
While you are at it, check out rat patrol. They have been at it for a while and are so great. I especially like the peace corps outreach division.
They also have links explaining the history of tall bikes. For some reason it is a minneapolis thing. Winter brings boredom I suppose, scandanavians do get things done, and it is kinda flat.

tall bikes are all over the place, and which people know about is more about how much they market (jacket patches? stickers?) and how much they travel for events like Slaughterama, Bike Kill , and Mpls' Chino.
Rat Patrol is based about 4 blocks from me. They're super nice but I'd say far smaller than Black Label. But they market.
Ah - my trip to Austria/France got ****ed courtesy of United Airlines and the wonderful Dulles baggage crew.
What time is the Saturday BIKE premire festivities?
Spud, which kids from critical mass? Some were cool.
Mike, Amy, Chelsea, probably a few more whose names i dont remember.

More pirate outreach.
Mike oughta be a pirate, Chelsea is leaving too soon.
Amy?
There were some difficult kids who gave me a headache.
Two ideas come to mind,
regular friday night bike parade (like CM) but less political, to build up numbers.
And greater outreach and color for CM.
last CM was good but pathetic for summer in DC.
I think we ought to have more flags, costumes, freak bikes, and handouts.
Building coalition.

when you say it got swapped, is the case there? i left american flyers intentionally because it's godawful. did you check the american flyers case?
i think you have Amy and Chelsea confused, but yeah. weekly bike parades, huh? uh we had one for the pancake pillage, maybe more pillages need to be routed so we can hijack parades :)
oh and just the fact that Kevin Bacon is not in it and Heather Gray cries cause her career is about to be over once it premieres makes American Flyers about a billion times better than Quicksilver. not this has anything to do with me having any of the sought after DVDs.

Pirates,
Just a quick note to let you guys know that the fixed-gear story I wrote for the Post is coming out this weekend in the Sunday Source, with a few Pirate pics. Thanks for all your help. I had hoped to get out and pillage with you guys soon, but I tore my ACL playing hockey on Monday, so I wont be riding fixed or anything else for quite a while.
Cheers.

fold it up, tie twine around it (or a rubber band). put it in with the other trash. i'd say recycle it, but dc has a moral objection to recycling. it'll just get thrown in with the trash anyway.

Jiminmisery, a torn ACL is almost tragic. Hope they will fix you up right...the first time.
DVD, all sorted out! but Am Flyrs is still at my place. Also, it is Jennifier not Heather Gray as the girl who had the NOSE@.
meanwhile, I have a bunch of frozen goat parts in my freezer, so if we want, we can smoke another goat for Kenton.

Allright, well the US Men's National Soccer Team didn't do very well against the Chech Republic in the World Cup. So, there's only one thing for it. I'm gonna have to go over there and yell encouraging things at them from the stands. See you some time after I get back on the 25th.

!!!! THE LONGEST DAY !!!!
Thanks to the miracle of modern medicine, I have to go back in to get gauze stuffed into my wound (again), and start (another) round of (different) antibiotics. So if I'm healed up by the 21st, I'm definitely going to want to come and ride my f'ing brains out. I haven't been on my bike in two weeks, and it's not getting any more likely. Hate my life right now!

Pitch dark on the Mt Vernon to Potomic Mills to catch the X-men?
i'm not too sure about catching the x-men, i think they could easily overpower us ****in mutants. but i'd go riding. when are you going to be back on the bike LBK? Duece? photons i've seen riding, ready for some long rides?
also there is a serious lack of DC representation in the postcard-spokecard exchange (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=2587697), what gives?
I'll do a ride next week when United returns my bag with the locks and the shoes :)

there IS the "longest day"
we"ll need to set up ways of meeting up for people who can't get the whole day off work/school
with the people who are intending to go (CM kids), I'm thinking about a 1/2 century day, to this park and that park. i.e. billy goat trail, great falls ... it would be great if we can find a place to go swimming (that will not make us SIQ).
i think he meant Potomac Yard
IM BACK!!!
