Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I got to call my Doc next week. But I don't think I will be on a bike for a few weeks. I took a pretty big hit. My knee feels like ****. I think I need an MRI. Dam Dam Dam

BoogerBike--Sorry to hear about your accident. Having joined the club back in Feb, I can completely relate. I'm was in the MRI club several times, but I am *DONE* with that club. I'm off my bike now due to some reluctance, but did go for a short ride the other day...tempting.

I really hope your knee feels better and the Doc has some good news.

Spud! Sorry to hear your bike was stolen! Hey, there should be a stolen bike club too, I had one stolen last year, the lock was clipped right off. That is rotten someone stole it from your truck.

I'll keep an eye out for it.

It's always good to have the prodigal daughters/sons of the pirates return (and now I sound like I've been a Pirate for longer than one month). Will you be joining us for a little pedalling at some point?

Although I could not join the CM yesterday, I definitely will be ready to pedal at the next one! Count me in. It will be nice to get out there again.

Actually, CM wasn't yesterday. I believe it's scheduled for Friday, July 7th, the first Friday of the month. It's not too late!

yeah it sucks, i just filed the police report. i dont think it was frat boys or anyone with a clue, there were a lot of other things that could/would have been taken. i'm thinking it was someone who wanted a bike to ride or to pawn/sell and only a bike. i have 2 wheelsets, one nice and one junk, and neither were taken, just the complete bike and a handful of change, and a bunch of handlebars, stems, tubes, tires, etc. or i suppose someone who was really jonesing for a vintage Raleigh mixte.

yeah CM is this upcoming friday, i doubt i'll be able to make it but there is an afterparty at porter street again, which should be more bike-friendly, i'll see you guys at that if there arent any pillages this week.

FWIW - the best view tends to be from the Jefferson Memorial as its closer to the fireworks and the smoother tidal basin gives a better reflection than the Potomac.

scouted yesterday, no real noticable flooded out crap, can't tell about the flying insects.

MEB, does that mean you will be joining us? wonder how crowded does the Jefferson Memorial get?

Final locale for fireworks watching can be elected at random after the ride begins.

btw: believe gnidir peek endo'ed while flying down hill (and trying to avoid a car) and did not actually get hooded, correct me if I'm wrong.

Thinking about the trip to Mt. Vernon, but I have a lot to get done so don't know if I can yet.
If I do have time afternoon of 4th, may want to review what special events are going on at the mall or museums-sometimes they have interesting historical actors and other special events on the 4th only.
I live in Crystal City so if I do elect to ride to Mt. Vernon, might want to try and meet either at the Crystal City exit or 4 mile run exit on Mount Vernon Trail (I assume that is the route you were taking), particularly since the subway bans bikes on July 4th making Sherwood harder to access.

I'm planning on going to the fireworks, so I probably can independent of how busy I am that day, probably could make the time Crystal City/Pentagow Row as well.

The South Bank of the Mt. Vernon Trail is pretty crowded as they turn GW Parkway's sides and median into a parking lot that day and is easily accessible via the Arlington Cemetery subway, the Jefferson Memorial is less so since its a long walk from both parking and subways. I watched the fireworks last year from site you selected, and if you do watch there, go for site in which you can see the fireworks reflecting off the river-with that late an arrival time, probably means a high position so you can see over the crowd that got earlier picks. Two years ago, I watched on Columbia Island just downstream of Roosevelt Island two years ago (my vote for the second best location behind the Jefferson Memorial).

Edit: The reason the Jefferson Memorial is a long way from parking is the parking near the Jefferson memorial and the FDR memorial is closed July 4th, and with the Smithsonian Metro Station closed 7/4, the nearest subway stations are L'Enfaunt, Federal Triangle, and Arlington Cemetary.

The river was barely supposed to go over the banks at Little Falls and Haines. There has been some mild flooding of streets and parks in Old Town, but no buildings affected-that may have been high tide (Old Town does have tides). The banks north of Old Town are high enough to accomodate some swelling or the river. There is a lot of debris floating in the river. It might be worth looking at the tidal basin to see if debris has worked its way into there affecting the reflection.

Hey long distance pirates,

Anyone up for 60 miles on the fourth? About half an hour east in Bowie, the PPTC have two group rides scheduled. I'm thinking of doing one of these 40's in addition to PNC's ride at 3pm. I'm leaning towards the B ride cause the average might get kicked up by a paceline - even if its not, our usual Pirate Paceline could form. Only problem I could see would be getting back into DC under an hour by car cause of traffic around 1pm but that should still leave plenty of time for PNC's 3pm ride start.

Potomac Peddlers - 42 miles / CC (14-16mph avg) Pace out of Allen Park Pond in Bowie, 9am

Potomac Peddlers - 40+ miles / B (16-18mph avg) Pace out of Davidsonville, 9am

R.I.P.

Today the bike shop called and pronounced my beloved Bacon dead. She was so young. Only 14 weeks to the day old. We talked after she came into my life and it was her intent that if she went to NJS heaven (All bikes become NJS when they die), that I find a new ride and not morn her.

Be safe out their pirates, the waters may just swallow your loves.
