Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Last night I think I spied a grill in one of the picnic shelters at Hains. One of those brick chimney deals. Not sure if it's used/useful. I'm no bbq expert. Someone might want to inspect it beforehand.
Otherwise, I'm officially car-free and not much help. But I can bring tofu pups and riblets.

Noah and Steve, thanks for your enthusiasm. I was used to it staying open till nine, but it closed at quarter to eight yesterday.
Is anyone interested in going next time?
Only Peter and myself have been there.
bikes for the world is the name of the organization.
They asked me to explain that they will not sell parts. Those are useful overseas.
They are primarily selling big money items, though those will mostly go to ebay.
Like the proteus track bike they have.
Larger bikes, road bikes and obscurly equipped bikes will also be sold.
That means that the tommasino with noflange ultralight wheels in a 56cm is a seller.
anyway, anyone want to go next week?
Additionally, they need volunteers to help with collections.
Now, I don't want to assume that anyone has a social conscience but...if you do, lets volunteer to help.
They are making a good idea work where most people fail miserably.
PS. I am going out to LA. Anyone need anything?
Joel. I want to build a trailer, you want to help?
Have fun. -Ben

hey ben
is this bftw thing only wednesdays? i'm in no need for a bike at this juncture (although the proteus and the tomassini sound real tempting) but that's a really good organization and i'd like to come help out if i can.

Circa 2003!
Bless his heart...
Thor: After my stage win in Tour de France last year, people have started to recognize me. Exactly like the biggest Norwegian group, A-HA. Me and Morten Harket are in the same class...But he’s a better singer. (smiling)

can't come to this, unfortunately my fiancee's parents are in town
edit: can't come to this unfortunatley, my fiancee's parents are in town (those funky simleys here)
off topic: I'm at the LOC today and yesterday, I see this awesome PINK thing with black skulls and crossbones, pink grips, pink deep V's and relative awesomeness... anyone know this bike? it's SS on a velocity flip-flop hub, no fixie on the other side. looks like custom paint/powercoat? I haven't a clue, but no markings on it.

Thanks for sharing those pictures, Spud. Now I'll expect a photographic chronicle of any time I spend around you.
Baltimore to DC:
From South Laurel, I think the best way to DC is along Rte 201 (Baltimore Avenue/Kenilworth Avenue), turning right (west) on Greenbelt RD, then getting on the Paint Branch Trail which is part of the Anacostia Tribuitary Trail System and will take you as far south towards DC as Colmar Manor, MD, very close to the DC border and southbound road: Bladensburg RD, and the south-and-west: Rhode Island Avenue.
From Baltimore to Laurel, I'll need to study for that. Route 1 looks attractive on the map, but has 50 mile an hour stretches with no shoulders. In the perfect world, Route 1 would totally accomidate bikes, or even sidewalks. Rte 29 is highway and there are laws against bikes there. I'll look into the back roads like rte 108 to 650. Or Brock Bridge RD.
I've been looking forward to the BoogerSpud tomorrow. I have a car and a cooler. If it's needed, call me at 240 461 7026. I'm "working" till 5:30-6 and hope to meet at Hains Point by 7.
Coney's Island is such a perfect place to watch the Warriors! I'm not going, but that would be awesome. Makes me want to watch The Wanderers too! I just watched City Of God again, anyone seen it? It's a story based on true events in Brazil, my favorite gangster movie now.

maybe... if she's gone to clipless. it was a neat paint job!
I know you told me, I don't listen to ANYONE anymore... I've just got her to get on a bike once a month or so... then it'll be a little more often, and then maybe every other day, and hopefully then she'll be able to come too! haha doubtful, at best.
maybe I'll see you all again sometime soon... possibly on fixed if my cogs come in!

Not listening to poop is a great place to start. You have TST's full support on not listening to him.:p
Anyway, sounds like there'll be a grill down there so that's awesome. Poop let me know what's up with that. I can get one from a friend at work but it requires early morning driving to Bowie, ick.
Again, if you have parts or any other things that you want to throw into the prize grab bag, bring 'em.
Also, if you are driving remember you can't take a car past the pavillion after 6.
I think we'll be gettin there around 4 or so. Stuff starts around 6 EPT.
I'll be there as soon as I'm done with work. I'll bring some grilling imtes with me.
Can you have a car inside the park if you get inside before the gates close?

I'm pretty sure you can.
Update: Bought 2 cases of beer and plenty of Shirley Temple stuff. If you need more than that, bring it. Also bring food for the grill. 4:00 cooking and general crap. 6:00 riding in circles! Yay!
I've got my cooler and will pick up ice, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ketchup, relish, mustard, mayo.

Glad to see everyone tonight - welcome to the new folks. And it's always fantastic to see classic Pirates. *grin*
First Annual Boogerspud = a rousing success! Thanks Dirty and Baldy!
Um... I hope a Boogerspud isn't an annual thing, considering what it was for.
But definately good fun tonight. Good job to Baldy and Photons for bringing it together.

yarr!
the boogerspud invitational was a resounding sucess, thanks to everybody who came out. we had a blast and raised some much appreciated cash for our recently injured mates.
the results are in! in a sense, we were all winners, because we had a good time for a great cause. but in another, more accurate sense, these were the winners
death race: RinceWind8. the race consisted of three "short laps" with two hairpin turns per lap. required skill as well as strategy, as the field was large.
skid competition: never really happened, but since he skidded through a tire, we gave the title to babychris, who also got first out of town in every competition he entered.
big lap: your humble narrator. featured a cyclocross gate crossing, which proved to make up the difference in the race, as i made the wise decision to hop the curb in the dark.
kangaroo race: ryand. the race started out as a "last man standing" endurance event, until we realized that riding kangaroo is much easier than we had thought and we could've been there for hours. the clear winner was ryan, who managed to remove his pants while moving. i'm still not sure how he did it.
