Shall we plan some Piracy for Friday night, something AFTER 8pm?
So the temps will be dropping this weekend - back into just the 90's during the day :) Would anyone be interested in a B paced PPTC 50 miler on Saturday morning? It starts early, 8:30am but it leaves from Sutton Place in DC (I'll have to look up the actual ride start and I'll update with directions). It should be about 3-4 hours total. Sunday I'm sorta looking for a change from Hains Point. Photon's really got me thinking of crashing the Capitol Hill Bikes coffee shop ride (approximately a CC pace) - usually 40-50 miles starting at 9am, I heard this one's fixie-friendly.
critical mass... ride on saturday... ride(or laps n cheese) on sunday...
...what a shiv weekend to be gone.
again, anybody need anything from the philadelphia area?
or if anybody wants to head up to philly you can stay with me.
(i still have another apartment up there until the end of october or something)
have fun everybody. be safe at CM.

8:30 on a saturday? yer killin me. if i can drag my hungover ass out of bed i'd like to make it though. might even break out the gears :D
and when you're done with whatever ride you all do on sunday, you should come down to rfk for the criterium. it's a good time, short laps so its very spectator friendly, and the main event (womens cat 1) goes off around 4.

I think we decided to stop talking about the rights or wrongs on CM. I don't have a problem with people reminding other people about the ride. Just remember that CM is NOT a pirate ride.
Word, certain people just seem to stir it up. Just don't want the headache again.

I might do a front porch sale, to many questions on the emails.
most people would reply with the "i just spit coffee all over my keybaord" comment on a picture like that.
but i'm going to reply with this one instead:
as i checked to see the latest post, a coworker walked into my cube and saw spiderman getting humped by a squirrel. yeah, that wasn't awkward. ha.
thanks tink!
*edit:
red: yeah theres reload stuff in philly. did you say that because you needed some?
i was just asking because i just moved from philly and i'm going up to visit.
theres plenty of stuff in philly that somebody could need.

Yes, I'm a little confused...
Ryan, you are making quite the impression at work. Lets go over your score card in the first 2 weeks?
1) Boss sees you watching vintage Hulkster vids
2) Boss sees you watching cycling vids
3) Boss comments on shirt with a yellow robot and a girl
4) Co-worker spots spidey on your screen with a squirrel going ape on his head
... and you're still there.

I'd like purchase a Fixed Gear Bicycle. I see a lot of them around and I think that they look pretty cool. I even saw an article on them in the Washington Post! I'm not that strong of a rider but would like one without a brake. My last bike was a mountain bike that I paid $1500 for in 1997 and had full suspension and knobby tires. I never took it off-road though, and once the initial shine wore off I never rode it again. Mountain bikes were so cool back then, but when I look at it now it just doesn't have that same appeal. You can buy it here on craigslist for $1800 if you look for my other posting. It's got top of the line Shimanoe component and I'm asking more for it because I got it tuned up in spring of 2001 and had them put on a pretty sweet "gel" seat.
So if you have a fixed-gear bike you want to sell (preferrably without a brake) let me know I'm willing to pay up to $75.
$100 if it has wooden "phil" hubs.

edit: this guy's completely clueless/joking!!!

there was a good cl posting yesterday too.
RPC- i've also been caught on CL looking at bikes numerous times.
as long as i get my work done its cool i guess.

yeah. I'm doing the 30+... hoping the field gets bigger; right now it's just all the strongest F'rs from MABRA.
I thought you said the strongets F'rs from NAMBLA and I was like "whoa, watch out."

When I first moved to DC, I had a roommate who made a trip to SF to scout things out. We were thinking to move out there--this was, '91 or so. One of the bizarre things he brought back for me was a NAMBLA brochure w/ all sorts of contacts listed in it and persuasive text as to why the NAMBLA lifestyle was normal and how its members were a proud lot... just a little more Greek than most;) :shudder:

RPC - I can be up for the Sat morning PPTC ride, what about BLocks? The afternoon, I have to spiff up the Bandit so it can be sold. Anyone interested in a 1200cc 110HP 550lb fixie?
Ryan, Katie called about the bike, so she does want it.
I gave my sister a '73 "rahly" 3 spd a few years back, it collected dust, she has an electra now.
I'll call to see if she would want to sell the 3 spd, if yes, would you be able to gather it this weekend ?(South 20 St near trader joe's).

Is it breakless, breaks are fugly.
I've been stopping by paddling backwards since I was 4 so I don't need breaks
and I will only buy it if it had Karin parts, Karinolo brakes in, shimaNO brakes down!

This a little delayed, but four or so pages back a guy named Boro9 emerged from the shadows and comented on cubicle life. Well, it turns out he has a blog and he says the following:
I’ve been reading on a forum I am on about DC Bike Pirates. A loose confederation of urban cyclists who generally take bikes [and] then party[.] Now, I’m envious… I want to do that! So… any London cyclists out there who like the idea of dressing down (or up), coming out on a beater, and pub crawling some suburb of London before we split?
Can we send this guy a shirt (I'll pay for it if need be)? I mean he's a kindred spirit if I ever saw one, the least we could do is help him start the London Street Pirates before he hops the pond. Plus it would be cool to have the District Roger flying through the fog of London.
Yeha! Send me a t-shirt!
Feck I'm drunk. It's lkie 5am here ort something. I'm abouyt to head to the airpot t go to LA... road trpi with some guys from NYC... LA > San Diego > er.. Flagstaff > Vegas > Napa > San Francisco. I'll be back in two weeks... where's do I send for a shirt?
No, not takign bike. Road trip, rather difficlut. ANyonen know where the bowlign alley in Big Lebowski can be found? I feel I must go there!

Buro, there are a number of London groups that have been around since the late eighties. But they don't spend as much time on the internet. I know that one group used to rally at filthy mcnasty's on tuesday evenings.
You might want to check with London messenger companies.

Details for the PPTC 50:
Starts at 8:30a, Sutton Place (now Balducci's) is located at 3201 New Mexico, off of Cathedral Ave, near American University. The route will go through the rest of NW into Montgomery County, meander through Potomac to Beach Drive, and pass through Georgetown and Dupont Circle on the way back to the start.
Sunday ride: 30ish, from Capitol Hill Bikes, 8th Street, Eastern Market 9am. I hear the coffee shop ride is well attended. Photons has been on it and fixies get lots of compliments. A fast group also leaves at the same CapHill place, same CapHill time, so if you're more into speed and pacelining on DC streets they've got you covered.
Go London Pirates - I wish I could drop by the local and grab a pint right now!
So I think I'm gonna pick up a bag this weekend from reload and customize it myself rather than paying out the ass for it. quick question... anybody want to help me with screenprinting and fabric cutting/sewing? if not, looks like i get to learn to sew...
*edit: also, is there any fixie friendly centuries coming up in the mid fall? i know peter mentioned something about the seagull on sunday, is that fixie friendly? anybody want to start riding long distances every other wednesday (the ones without polo) as a training of sort. we could do a half century every other wednesday and stop for food around the midpoint. we would meet where ever around 6:30-7. i know, late ride, but still it would be fun.
