So I think I'm gonna pick up a bag this weekend from reload and customize it myself rather than paying out the ass for it. quick question... anybody want to help me with screenprinting and fabric cutting/sewing? if not, looks like i get to learn to sew...

*edit: also, is there any fixie friendly centuries coming up in the mid fall? i know peter mentioned something about the seagull on sunday, is that fixie friendly? anybody want to start riding long distances every other wednesday (the ones without polo) as a training of sort. we could do a half century every other wednesday and stop for food around the midpoint. we would meet where ever around 6:30-7. i know, late ride, but still it would be fun.

We're going to ride the Reston century fixed.

There was a Pirate fixed century back in May, it was brutal.
The seagull is rather fixed friendly if the wind is co-operative, I'm riding it geared
I'm game for longish rides in the evening, relaxed 30 - 40.
Also thinking about late night long hauls 40-100

*edit* anybody have good PW stories? (personal worst) Most uncomfortable, sloooow, discouraging, no-matter-how-hard-you-try ride/event/race. Mine are mainly from running-- sitting on the side of the road puking and crying, verrrrry far from home. good times.

Mine all seem to come from getting hit with car doors and yelling while bleeding out of my neck/shoulder at people who hop out of cabs into traffic.
*edit: that happened a few too many times in philly.
**edit: Another personal favorite was getting stuck in the trolley tracks in the rain and popping out into the back of a van just in time to make out with the back window. Then some dude in a car made fun of me. I don' like that guy.

My endurance seems to have been pretty good from training for sports(I had to play a sport ever season because my parents didn't want me "sitting around the house"). I played football for ten years, then an awesome back injury took me out my ninth season(yeah, that tenth season was a mistake). I always thought football was a tough sport, then I wrestled for a year and reinjured my back. Nothing can beat a wrestling practice. I have never felt so many points in my body ache. (Lift weights, stretch, run two miles, warm up, stretch, practice, sprints, run two miles, stretch.) I bet swimmers really get the work out though. Every single muscle.

As far as physical injury goes, my back probably takes the cake for me. Not being able to walk sucks. I also messed up my ankles pretty bad skateboarding, but the pain didn't really compare.

The Booger-Spud was the first race I've entered on my bike. And that was a very friendly race. Coming down that last leg on the long lap was tough though, because I didn't pace myself properly. I thought it was way shorter than it ended up being so I burned myself out early and had to slow down to try to push again at the end.

fyi- i usually use the "public transportation is for jerks and lesbians" quote from Homer Simpson. but modifications are always good and fun.

my worst ever story is from just a few weeks ago. 94 miles in, 14 miles from my destination, with 40lb of gear and not enough water and having not eaten lunch and with 92 degree heat through some serious rolling hills, my brain told my body: STOP. and it did. it was sucky. i pulled through another 6 mi to make 100 before calling my grandmother to pick me up.... 8 mi from her house.

The head during The Pervert's Invitational made me feel the worst, but I have a feeling I still performs the same. In general, I try to adopt a non-competetive mindset when I'm in races, since I'm pretty sure I won't win. Most of my worst finishes in my old XC Mtn. racing days were due to spontaneous flats that I was ill prepared for. But, everytime we hit the first incline of an alleycat and the pack zooms ahead of me...I hurt a little inside.

How about the NY Century:

I did the PPTC century fixed last year, but it's rather hilly. More or less rolling hills the whole time. It was still fun.

Actually the WOD fixed century is one of my PW's. Getting to the 7-11 and then realizing that there was another 70 to go was a defining moment. There is definitly a physical and mental block this season that contributed to it.

PW.... Coming to terms that me knee was shot. (The first time) Early this year I had been riding with my bad knee, but what the hell, I could deal with it. I was riding home from work and the pain was so bad that I couldn't go on. I stopped for a bit and dropped my head thinking about giveing up. I then rode home with one leg. I didn't ride again months.

well besides last month, my PW is riding home in one of the snowfalls and slipping and sliding all over the custis and W&OD, which resulted in a strained ankle, i then walked the bike the last 6 miles home with soaked (mesh) cycling shoes and a heavy bag of camera equipment.

Shane where the f did that mohawk come from? Boogerspud didn't seem like your hair was gonna be that long. Also, can you send me a link of that guy that powdercoated Meghan's bike?

Wish I had stayed around for drunken late night rides.

Well, I'm gonna go get some WUHTER for Tink, maybe a new bag, and go find people I haven't seen in a while. Keep it awesome DC.

Edit: within thirty minutes in philly, trolley track accident. Riding north on 11th st, my friend got stuck in the tracks, popped out into me and ended up underneath me sliding down the road in a pile of people and bikes, the kid bringing up the rear ran into the curb trying not to run the two of us over. Well, that was the first time I've ever fallen because of somebody else hitting me on a bike...
Luckily nobody cracked their face on a curb. But now my leg hurts. Damn.

Oh, yeah. I can help you with the customizing. It is easier to do it with the back off and roland is using a programmable embroiderer. But you can def DIY it. I will help.

I led CM last night! Like the route? Thanks to Spud, No 1 Player, Gene, Booger, Tink and everyone else who helped me lead the route along the way. Especially Spud, for inspiring me to print my fantasy route for sharing. Man, what a great ride. I hope more riders can get inspired to propose routes. There were AU kids making flags in the park before the ride, hooking their rides up with some festivity! M St Playas, in the place! Chelsea was gone after so many Critical Mass rides, so I had to go hard this time -bringing popsicles loaded in a cooler that was hauled in the bike trailer, colors and beats blazing. I live for nights like last night!

Afterwards, we grilled outside Poopncows place with drinks in hand, meeting a few new folks, Bryce, Rob, Jillian. I met Chombo, Tiffany. Some of us were talking about going together to see the free play about the 70 (Georgia Ave) bus next week. (last wednesday i went ot see it and the place closed due to heat)Pirates trickled into the yard, one by one, two by three by...I don't know what happened after midnight, I went to feed my poor starving beast Krisee Caramel. What a great night.

I'm finally on my fix... clipless... (first fixed, first time clipless) the feeling is like nothing else. Of course, you all know that already. I'm thrilled!!! I fell on my ass trying to trackstand though... I went off into the grass, but it was almost as hard as pavement!!!

I also need someone with experience (and a chainwhip?) to help me tighten down the cog/lockring, help me make sure my chainline is straight, and teach me how much tension to put on the chainline... when I was putting on some backpressure today there was a teeny bit of slop... that's due to chain tension right? I certainly hope I wasn't breaking my cog loose every time and that little bit of slop wasn't the amount of thread it traveled before binding on the lockring.
Thoughts?

don't ride it anymore until you get a chainwhip and lockring wrench, then ride it without backpedalling and retighten the lockring. if nobody else has time i can help you out tomorrow.

glad you like fixed and clipless. learning to trackstand can take minutes or hours or days, you'll get it don't worry.

You can always use the Rotafix method. I have never had any problems using this method, and sadly I am to cheap to buy a chainwhip. http://204.73.203.34/fisso/eng/schpignone.htm

But that won't help with a lockring.

True, but channel locks or needle nose vise grips will work and are easier to come by for some of us. And besides according to the website you dont need a lockring when you use this method  (you have to love italians). I strongly encourage the use of a lockrings eventhough I rock a suicide hub. I mig welded it, rotafixed it, jb welded it and I run a front brake. I am confident that my life isnt in jeopordy
