That's the same question that got Ryan mixed up with us! Ha! And yes, Amsterdam Falafel on 18th st.

kalani79

WORD. Maybe I'll hit up Amsterdam Falafel for dinner before... SNAKES ON A PLANE.

Will I be the only person riding gears tomorrow night?

I'm in for Snakes On A Plane. But I can't wait for the sequal "Kangaroos On A Cruise".

So, I'm the dude who hasn't been able to get to the internet for two days because of (1) girlfriend borrowing computer when her's died and (2) being wicked f-ckin' busy.

Thank you for the Fall from Paradise Pillage - Ryan, I'm super glad you're ok. Root booze is on me next time. You all are the best friends a pirate could ask for.

I have an extra ticket for Snakes On A Plane if somebody wants it, umm whoever posts first, just to avoid confusion.

Kalani, no you won't be the only one geared, and don't worry about that anyway. We aren't exclusive at all it's about fun.

Rottentomatos.com (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/snakes_on_a_plane/)says Snakes On A Plane is 78% fresh. I'm worried, is this movie going to be good, cause that's not what I paid to see.

ryand
08-18-06, 08:31 AM
oh no... this movie can't be good, that would be terrible.

$9.50 + $1.00 convenience + $35 cause baldy wants to rip you off.
no really, it is $9.50 plus $1, so $10.50.

baldylocks
08-18-06, 11:20 AM
Kalani, it's all yours.

Granted I'm a little biased on the subject, but the W&OD hasn't ever seemed that bad to me. Maybe I just ride on it at odd times or something.I wonder if it doesn't speak to a larger problem, like the way the average DC area cyclist is treated and therefore reacts. What I mean is that there is such an absolute lack of enforcement of and concern for bikes in traffic 'round here. I mean we've all tried to ride in a bike lane in downtown right? Doesn't work so well. Perhaps if we weren't made to feel like we needed to be on the defensive all the time then we wouldn't seem to be on the offense when we are someplace like a trail.

I don't know, I'm all screwed up on cough syrup...

Re the WOD: I hate how all those horses are always getting in my way. Pony rage!http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2006/08/18/GR2006081800078.html
It's been congested with squirrelly riders on the weekends for a long time. Obviously you want to avoid Saturday afternoons on the Mt. Vernon during Cherry Blossom season. It's definitely not packed with commuters in the AM like they wrote. Those recent accidents are tragic tho.

It's a *mixed-use* trail. I see the point of people out there with their families and running into 30mph weekend warrior pace lines. Cyclists are supposed to yield on these trails. It's easy! 1) slow down 2) "onyerleft" 3) wait for them to inevitably swerve left 4) pass when clear..tadah! On your way after maybe a 5 second delay. And if it's unacceptable, then I think we/you/they belong on the street. Nice as the WOD would be just for biking, it's not just for bikes. If only people in cars saw the street that way. Share the wha?

baldylocks
08-18-06, 12:20 PM
Right you are. I gotta' say, if you are doing the 30 mph weekend warrior paceline thing you probably do belong on the street and not a trail. Good point LBK. Just like everything else, some cyclists are just buttholes and should be forced to ride behind the ponies.

I'm gonna' go get coffee now. Yay sick day!

I had a 7-year old girl take a spill directly in front of me last Sunday on the W&OD. I ran her ass over. no really, it was kinda scary, 'cause I thought I was going to, but I just clipped her bike with my pedal as I bailed out sideways. She skinned her knee and was crying... so I showed her my bloody knee from trying to trackstand, and she started lauging at me. So I started crying. It was awful.

What the Cluck?

The W&OD isn't that bad during commuting hours, and I do end up training on it in the morning--it's about the only chance I get. I think a big part of the problem is that for every experienced and skillful rider on the trail there are at least 10 dolts on psuedo TT bikes or hybrids w/ aero bars, swerving to and fro like drunks rolling out of a stadium parking lot after a Jimmy Buffet concert.

Tuesday Garden Plunder: Meet at one of our's garden, then ride to eachother's veggie gardens, collecting the night's booty for grilling into the night. What say you all? Who's got a garden? I want to see your garden and eat it's contents. I have a plot at the Brookland Community Garden (7th and Monroe St NE) putting out eggplant and green tomatos. Corn, beans, and squash to come.

Tonight, I'll be at Selam -1524 U Street- to support a dj friend. She'll be spinning bangra beats and I'll be dancing real hard only if i'm brave enough. It's free! She's early like 9, then it's other djs.

Thanks for the offer, Ryan. I probably would have said yeah to that before finding out about my friend's thing.

"Sure you can wear a bandanna and an eyepatch, fly a jolly roger and say "ARGH MATEY" all you want, but that doesn't make you a pirate any more than walking a track bike makes you a cyclist. I suppose if you rolled some drunks, or snatched someone's purse then rode away you could call yourself a bike pirate. A LAME bike pirate, but at least then you'd be stealing something, and not just co-opting the fashion of a group of people who made plunder on the high seas a lifestyle."
