New to town... how does one bike into Virginia? Specifically Foggy Bottom area to Arlington. Are bikes allowed on any of the bridges? Any recommended routes to get to Clarendon Boulevard (EMS)?

mount vernon trail? i don't really know the trails, but ask dirtyphotons about it, he seems to know them well.

also, i've been seen riding on the bridges. i don't know if that is ill advised, but i haven't been stopped on them yet.
(see also: don't get directions to hains from baldy. yow.)
(see also: don't take the whitehurst parkway to get to the key bridge.)

from foggy bottom take pennsylvania to m street to the key bridge.

you can go over the key bridge on the road with your bike, but i'd personally advise taking the pedestrian path on the right side.

when you get across the key bridge you can get back on the road and go straight until you hit wilson blvd.

right on wilson, up a couple decent sized hills, and as you cross washington blvd, the road will fork.

bear right to stay on wilson blvd. take a left on north edgewood and ems is caddy-corner to the intersection of north edgewood and clarendon blvd.

WORD, TONIGHT?! Easyrid'nGrillage is just what I came here to propagate for, as late as it is. I'll find my way towards Poopncow and Kat with my fresh-picked diy corn, some store-bought potatos, and the tunes!!!

If BBox is Boomboxmike, his number is 240 461 7026 (but you didn't get that from me). All of you should set that in your phones cuz you know you'll need it in the future!

wear a helmet, ride with lights at night, ride to the right, take the lane if cars are passing too close, watch out for cabs and *******s.

Hassan347
08-22-06, 10:04 PM
A helmet was actuall the last thing i was worrying about...lol...now im all paranoid because i dont like wearin em and i probobly dont...even tho i should...

ive alway been more into bmx so the idea getting my hear run over by a car doesnt come up much

Noah_Deuce

As someone who has had his noggin saved by a helmet more than once, I highly recommend them.
Sorry I missed the pillage tonight - at school until 9:00 - whee!

Saturday - I'll come by around 5:00 or so - I've got veggie burgers.

If you fit the helmet right you pretty much forget that it is even there. As Nathan says, we don't want you to lose all your personality traits.

If you're an immensely sweaty beast like me, wear cloth under it to channel sweat and keep the pads less raunchy

helmet=keeping it awesome
Ride like cars can't see you. Sometimes they do, sometimes they done, and sometimes they don't care.

Don't be afraid to pull out in front of a car. Think of it this way, the average time you slow down a car before you can ride safely on the right is what... 10 Sec.? 20 Sec.? If they honk, wave at them. 10 sec of there time is worth alot less than your life. Take the lane if you need it.

in other news, who's coming to polo tonight?

rpc180
08-23-06, 08:45 AM
I have a helmet and I wear it - several people I know were glad they had them when things went south. I also have a mirror, lights, and reflectors. Even drivers complain about other drivers in this city ...

No polo for me tonight, the family is dropping in and I have to clean the snakes out of my place before they get here.

ryand
08-23-06, 09:01 AM
I'll be at polo.

I need to get a helmet so I will be able to ride the MS150. Recomendations will be taken by PM only, that way nobody has to read about what type of helmet I should get.

Hassan347

how is this polo played?

ryand

that pretty much sums up how one would play polo.
(what i mean to say is swing by tonight)

tink20seven
08-23-06, 10:48 AM
how is this polo played?

with ease and grace
like liquid flowing freely
delicate control deft precision
pwns j00

really though, it takes nothing more than the ability to control the bike at medium slow speeds. we play with mallets (cudely fashioned from golf clubs and pvc) and a whiffle ball. two goals two teams.

this is afterall a real sport, so there are official regulations. but we don't follow them. the number one rule is no feet may touch the ground. in the case of a "foot down" the player must disengage from the play and circle back in. other than that... it's a general melee. pandemonium.

come out and play tonight and see what all this hot fuss is about.
i'll be there at 7ish with mallets.

seriously though, any will work. i often ride on the undersides of my clips for polo, just so the inevitable bailout is a little easier.

oh man, i might put some platforms on for tonight. that would look so funny, cause all the platforms i have are huge clunky plastic ones.

definately walk over. or bike over by duct taping yourself to the cranks and a pillow to your head.

(I wear a helmet and) I'm working wednesdays again and when I get home tonight, I'm going to clean the bike-chain and cassette.

Hopefully I'll have it all together for Monday's legendary PG Pillage: Port Towne History Tour that starts 6:30pm at the corner of 33rd St and BunkerHill Rd -Mt Rainier, MD

Ryan, your knuckles alright from the fire last night brother? Speed/Death Metal plays in the backround everytime you show up.

Poopncow, I had little faith in our charred bits of food until I put that most amazing sandwich together. Surface-charred eggplant and sausage with some grilled tomato and onions makes a perfect sandwich!
