Arrrrr Matey…thar ba pirates a playin’ in yer yard!

After their pirate ship ran aground, the band of thrifty pirates salvaged what they could to build this secret pirate hideout. Watch out kids… the adults may pull off a mutiny and take over this tree house!

Why purchase ordinary swing sets and other playground equipment? Our tree houses are incredible play sets that double as a centerpiece in your landscape!

*
Oversize 5' x 6' custom "Pirate" themed Club House
*
8' x 6' Galleon Style Pirate Bow
*
Oversize Log
*
Right Side Swing
*
Fireman's Pole
*
Cedar Log Bow Support Beam
(bow support cannon is optional)
*
Ship's Wheel
*
Ship's Mast w/Crow's Nest on Roof (not accessible)
*
Dimensions: 18’ W x 10’ D x 20’ H

Tree house requires 6’x 8’ x 4” thick, rebar reinforced concrete slab. Requires forklift or crane to lift pieces from the truck and set them into place. Customer must secure personal handyman or contractor to receive and install the tree house. See installation manual for details.

Each tree house is built in two main pieces: the playhouse and the log. The log is a real, old fallen tree that we hollow out using a chainsaw! To get into the playhouse, simply enter the door in the hollow log, climb up the ladder in the center of the log and pull yourself through the trap door in the floor of the playhouse. Kids or no kids, this tree house is an incredible addition to any landscape!

Every tree house is a unique creation. That's because no two logs are exactly alike. Although they each differ, they're all extraordinary! Skallywag Sloop tree houses are about 14’ tall at the roof peak, and 20’ tall at the top of the flag. The average log is about 4' in diameter. It's a snug fit, but a large adult can easily climb inside and stand straight up with room to spare.

Benefits of owning a tree house:

*
When your children grow up, they will have priceless memories of the most whimsical playhouse a kid ever had
*
They add value and curb appeal to your home. They create a fun place in your yard where your kids will want to play- a place where you can see them and know they are safe
*
They provide a reason to go outside and engage in activities that promote physical strength, balance, confidence, coordination, social development, imagination and more
*
They are incredible conversation pieces. Your friends and family will line up for a tour
*
Every time you see your tree house, you'll smile a little, feel a little younger, and be a little happier

What route are you taking? Maryland->Bladensburg->NE Branch trail would work pretty well.

do you know the area? i was just thinking rhode island turns into route one, but that kinda sounds like suicide at that time of day.

Not really, but I ride Bladensburg to the sligo trail some weekends (people must be scared of NE because the sligo is always empty, even when the CCT is overflowing), and it's definitely rideable. Rush hour might be a little hairy, but should be better than RI. NE branch trail goes straight to college park from there.

Has anyone ever tried getting quotes for some vintage bikes from Mt. Airy? I've been looking at a few bikes the last couple days.

I got a couple quotes today, the website doesn't tell you which shop has it, but either way, the quotes were very reasonable.

I read some of the fine print for the tree house. In 4-6 weeks it gets delivered on a flatbed 18-wheeler! Crazy.

And since I'm now on the 9-5pm schedule, I can make a ride to College Park that starts at 6 from Georgetown - see you guys tomorrow.

RPC should totally get a vintage fixie from College Park. We can ghost ride it back.

Um... anybody wanna loan me a grand? (kidding)

yeah, i think it's just one guy, but he did get back to me after a couple emails. responses are a little spotty, but the dude sounds like he wants to help you find the right bike for you, rather than just try and sell you something, so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I rode from Philly to DC along route 1 and aside from the hills coming out of Pennsyvania, that section was the most hair raising, curse inducing part of the whole trip.

Not reccomended, but sadly, one of the only options. :(

I ride from DC to College Park to DC all the time. From the convetion center, it is about 8 miles. I do it in 35-40 minutes i think. Just take rt-1/baltimoreave/rhode island. It is all the same road. Most of it has wide shoulders and a pretty flat smooth hill. Only 1.5 sucky hills the whole way. I actually enjoy the ride.

I was at CP bikes today. They have a good selection of NOS road frames and a few track frames. Most of the stuff is really clean and runs in the $600-1000 range. It would be sacrilegious to make a conversion out of most the road frames. There is an amazing collection of vintage road bikes hanging from the ceiling. Check the ones near the mechanics bay.

i think you need to seriously consider learning about chain tension or how to tighten your axles if you're throwing your chain so often.

08-24-06, 03:00 PM
I have no issues with chain tension / tightening methods and thankfully I run two brakes, so no biggie. I think my chain is still in it's initial stretch period , so this was expected.

I also heard that a certain someone, who will remain unnamed ;) , runs a notoriously loose chain. I was a bit curious about the difference and let things go too far.

edit: does anyone want to ride the 50 states tour this weekend with me? we should make a pirate showing ...

i would actually say you're probably dumping your chain because of chainline problems.

Looked up the law: every bike in DC has to be registered. You do it at a police station. In regard to bills of sale:

"Bring a receipt or other proof of ownership, if possible. If you do not have proof of ownership, you can fill out a form stating that you own the bike."

I also found this other law that cops could be dicks about if they wanted...

1204.5 Each bicycle shall be equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of at least one hundred feet (100 ft.).

zacked
08-24-06, 10:07 PM
So tonight we were talking about the whole registration thing, and I recalled talk of them repealing it. What I was remembering was this article (http://dcbca.org/index.php?/articles/police_board_recommends_discontinuing_bicycle_registration_in_dc/), which says that the Office of Police Complaints had recommended that the police department stop enforcing that law. That was over a year ago. So I looked it up, and page 40 of this report (http://policecomplaints.dc.gov/occr/frames.asp?doc=/occr/lib/occr/info/docs/Annual_Report_FY05_Final.pdf) does in fact show that recommendation. It also says that the Police Chief agreed.

I can't find any mention that they actually ever implemented it, but I think I might call the Complaints Board tomorrow and ask.

dirtyphotons
08-24-06, 10:13 PM
yeah, we're pretty much all breaking some law at all times. might as well run lots of red lights.

Or a Fire House. I'm told that they are a little less jerky about the whole process. I've also heard, repeatedly, that the police sations often don't have the registration stuff on hand and the fire houses do. Also, fire trucks are cooler than police stations and you might see a dalmation. Perhaps we should all decend on someplace and register one day.

On another note, last night was awesome. Babychris got an unreal, old Raleigh track frame, I got a Pake to build up, and the folks running that place were cool as hell. Thanks Dirty and Ryan for thinking that one up.
