Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

1204.5 Each bicycle shall be equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of at least one hundred feet (100 ft.).

I can yell and you can hear it from 100 ft. officer. This is the part they smack me.

baldy, when you want to go to chain reaction later, give ryans phone a call. I will have it all day. unless his mom keeps calling and I go to ny to kill her.

I also found this other law that cops could be dicks about if they wanted...

1204.5 Each bicycle shall be equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of at least one hundred feet (100 ft.).

What's a cop without the room to be a dick? But I agree, every bike should be equipped with a device audible at least 100 feet. I fantasize about a roving bicycle go-go band...RAH!

I'm not registering my bike. I hope the register law does die out. Isn't the world of biking nicer unregulated? I like that as opposed to the world of the automobile -insurance, tags, register renewal, inspection.

Tonight after work, after 7, I'm riding to American University with 2 friends for a 6 dollar punk show. 240 461 7026 if you want to join.

yeah, i found it online, there weren't photos up, but larry emailed me the ones i put on flickr. the frame chris put a down payment on was at the college park shop, which, by the way, was awesome.

Good thing I stayed home last night, rode Hains, mopped living room, installed rear brakes on various bikes. fun stuff..... DOG knows what would have happened if I ever saw the Shop at Colllege Park... best to keep the fleet at its current force level.

Lieber? there is the picnic tommorow, otherwise 50 states would be great fun (assuming that it is a ride that hits the streets and aves named for the 50 states

i did the 50 state ride a few times. it's hilly and long. be warned. (Ps- the 7-11 at Hawaii ave is your friend)

the registration law. yeah. the DC Bike Advisory Committee recommended striking that from the regs a year ago, and DC coucil just has yet to act on our recommendations (there was a list- this was in the same list as getting rid of the brake requirement). it's effectively over anyway, and should be official by the end of the year.

will you represent us in court next time a cop asks us if our bikes are registered? ;)

ryand

so as of right now, dc has a brake law and a registration law, but both should be gone by the end of the year? or do i need more reading comprehension lessons.

yes, ryan. exactly.

if you have questions about this stuff, the go-to guy is Jim Sebastian (mailto:Jim.Sebastian@dc.gov) at DDOT.

when those are taken out of effect, im definately going to carry print outs of the new laws/changes in my bag. because i just love to tell a cop he/she is wrong. they hate it, and i hate the outcome, but i love doing it anyways.

Does this mean we're not all going to role/roll up on the Franklin Square Firehouse and get our bikes registered? We could make a pillage out of it. Each of us could get registered at a different fire station.

...why does this post feels like a regret?

thanks chimbly, I think i'll take my road bike or my mtn rig instead of the fixed, as much as I'd love to.
do they ride it in any kind of group?

But thats not the point! it is spending in debt before the world ends in about 18 1/2 months.

Now to find a nice 54 cm road frame that will not mind being locked to a post once in a while.....

yessss. ups.com says monday, so probably tuesday. ill probably end up carrying the damn bike box from the campus package center 6 blocks to my place because i won't want to wait for the delivery service.

also: i just realized i don't have a wrench for the front wheel! my bike has quick release wheels. what size wrench do i need for the wheels?

ryand
08-25-06, 04:39 PM
should be 15mm, same as your rear. i suggest using the parktools 15mm ratchet so you don't f up your track nuts. however, if you do ef your nuts, check out revolution in georgetown, they carry track nuts (at least in the threading for my axle - 10x1)

lebowitz
08-25-06, 04:40 PM
quick release == no wrench required
see http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_q.html#quick

edit: i'm now guessing from ryan's post that you are putting on track nuts, sorry.
I can help you with the install

cool i actually have a 15mm and 32mm wrench i got for cheap in san diego. 15 for pedals, 32 is an old headset size people don't use anymore i guess, so they sold it for cheap.

BTW,didn't someone need pedals? I found my Shimano SPD's. They're almost new,black,$20. Also got a set of MTB platforms with the screws in them I'll never use. Azonic or summat. Free to a good home.

kalani79

I might be interested in the Shimano SPD's... but not immediately. I need to decide if I want to have another pair so both bikes can be set up clipless.

clipless fixed is effin sweet. but i also like being able to wear my normal shoes when i ride places sometimes...

kalani79
08-25-06, 08:23 PM
Yeah I definitely will be doing some riding fixed+clipless cause I use mountain shoes so don't mind terribly if I have to do some walking... although dancing is tough (not impossible).

I'm just wondering if I'd want to buy another pair of pedals so that both my road bike and fixed will have clipless all the time.

It looks like the rest of thie picnic was more fun than the game. The highest attendance we've had all season (24,159 people) and this happens (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/scoreboard/game.jsp?match=08262006_LADC).
